sassanian radome

Post by footslogger »

So what's the deal with that headgear that I find on some of my sassanian figures? I guess the real bottom line is what color should I paint it. I've got it on some light cav and some archers riding on the elephants.

I have painted my sassanian headgear (their classical felt cap) in bright colour-(white -purple-bright red -bright sky blu-lemon yellow for the most),as their iranian dress that was very colourful.
Hoping this may help you

 This headgear was invented 30 years ago by Phil Barker for all fine young Persians. I believe he favours shocking pink.

Seriously, there is some evidence that during the Achaemenid period native Persians wore pale yellow, and non-natives wore white (or off-white) headgear. Iranian clothing may have been bright by ancient standards, but there was a hierarchy of color and established rules to be followed. The evidence for this, unfortunately, is slim.
