Re: The worlds 2015 - Runners & Riders
Nice variety of lists, though I believe Brett has had to take his Lydians home.
Two questions -
1. How is the first round draw being done, eg are same nationality kept apart?
2. Do opponents just agree whether to use metric or imperial, or is there a tournament default?

Re: The worlds 2015 - Runners & Riders
The original details suggest that the draw is by ranking but they may now be by date of army.
I believe the intention was to avoid playing someone from the same country in round 1 but with over 50% of entrants coming from GB that will be impossible.
Can't answer the measurement question but hope it is imperial.

You seem to forget Alan is from Scotland, not Essex. Scotland is a different country to England, so he could play any of the English players...petedalby wrote:The original details suggest that the draw is by ranking but they may now be by date of army.

Re: The worlds 2015 - Runners & Riders
OK, here are some quick answers for the questions
1. We are playing imperial!
2. First round: The Setup will be as historical as possible. We are using an algorithm taking into account some different things like
- from which armylist is the army Chosen
- what armydate does the army have
- from which Country is the player coming
- civil wars (same army on both sides) will be avoided if possible.
As we have more than 50% of the Players being UK-Players (hey, I'm german, I do not care about scottish players or players from Mars;) ) I will create 2 pools for round 1
Pool 1 is for the non-UK-players, and pool 2 for the rest. The rule says that each player in pool 1 will play a player in pool 2, so each non-UK-Player will face an UK-Player.
For round 2 I will try to make sure that each UK-Player who have played another UK-Player in round 1 will get a non-UK-Player, but for the rest I will only make sure that for the next 3 rounds every Player (except UK) will not face a Player from the same Country. For round 5 and 6, each game is possible.
Does this answer the questions?

Rounds 1 and 2, UK players will play at least one non-UK player.
Rounds 1 to 4 non-UK players will not face a player from their declared country.
Rounds 5 and 6 play anybody.
And an algorithm. I thought Germans had less rhythm than the English

I was more interested in the bit where Martin said "I'm German, I don't care about the Scottish"
Can't we just do Swiss chess from rounds three onwards?

"Stopping people playing their wife"
Unless there is something you and Dave are not telling us that is only Lynda and me , she'll be so far ahead of me it won't matter anyway

I could never marry Dave. I enjoy crushing his hopes too much.
Tho I suppose that's a lot like marriage

I think that was banned in England and Wales in 1926 - not certain about Scotland they may still allow it!!!

Re: The worlds 2015 - Runners & Riders
I believe the top 7 were:
1. Pete Dalby
2. Paul Johnstone
3. Guillame Fremont
4. Frederic Dufour
5. Dave Ruddock
6. Dino Monticoli
7. David Bannister
I had a really good time at Lisbon, very well organised, six really good games. Despite being drawn against Phil in round one...
Many thanks to Phil (Powell), Frederic (Dufour), Craig (Byron), Martin (Wirt), Alan (Cutner) and Paul (Johnstone) for some very enjoyable and very hard games.
Can't praise the Lisbon organising team enough - well done to Joao, Fernando and everybody else involved in yet another successful tournament.
