Would FoG work with square bases

Post by lentulus »

I am off to pick up the rules tonight or tomorrow (wargames rules at my local bookstore, who would have thought it?) but I am curious about something. I have become found of 40mm square bases for 15mm troops for a bunch of reasons, the protection of leveled lancesa dn pikes not the least.

How sensitive is FoG to base depth? Given that both sides were based the same, could everthing on square bases work?

40mm square would work but for a pike formation if you had 4 ranks of 40mm it would be very very very deep. Infantry in two ranks on 40mm square and some on half sized bases for change would be fine IMO

My ACW figs (admittedly 10mm) are based on 1" x 1" squares.

Maybe 30mm squares might work...but if you're planning to get into tournaments i'd stick with the basing as listed...

The rules are in fact fairly base size independent as long as both sides are using the same. Although 40mm width and recommended bases look right and work very well in practice.

I would recommend having infantry on 40mm depth bases representing 2 ranks and mounted 1 rank. It will then be 90% as above anyway.
