iPad broke turns

Post by wegeberg »

I rally enjoy the iPad version of BA.
One annoyance though: switching between apps (eg. BA -> Email -> Safari -> BA) often leads to reload of BA.
This means loosing your progress in the currently active MP game.
If possible, it would be nice to have some kind of auto-save functionality.

To avoid losing progress in MP, I recommend using the Slitherine button to manually save your turn to the server before switching to another app. Unfortunately we cannot anticipate when BA will be terminated to make room for another active app.

That's obvious, but sometimes you get disturbed by things as boring as work ;( I'll try to remember.
Something else – for the developers. Sometimes everything seems to slow down. Watching a mortar do its job might take some 20+ seconds.
I experience this on both my iPads, even when they're freshly booted. One being a 128Mb model.
It's not necessarily due to playing a large scenario with lots of units. Never happens in SP mode.

If iOS has decided that the app is using too much memory (for whatever reason) it may be being forced to flush and load textures to stay alive. That would slow things down a lot. Unfortunately there isn't any way for the app to know (a) how much memory it can use, or indeed (b) what amount of memory use will cause a warning (or termination).

Frankly it's the bane of iOS development :(

With the turn ending - ideally we would upload the turn for you on app backgrounding, but iOS only gives app a small amount of time to give up control (~5s IIRC) or it (once again) kills them. Which could easily be too little time to upload on a slower connection.

Cheers
