A good Challange

Post by Stryder »

Or at least it is for me, play the 1943 scenario as the Axis and give the large advantage to the Allies.. Allies launch invasion in North and South of France,, I have eliminated them many times but am being worn down. in Russia, I retreated to the Dneiper (Kursk attack was canceled) and I am holding my own there but we will see what happens as my oil and manpower are exhausted while the allies grow ever stronger...

Well, playing the 1943 scenario as the Axis with the maximum advantage to the allies is interesting! I managed to hold the USSR at the Dneiper until June 1944 and then the dam burst. They had a massive amount of units at high technology levels and I could do nothing to slow them down as they destroyed unit after unit. They went after Berlin with a vengeance. Finland was knocked out of the war in short order. They seemed to shift nearly 90% of their units to the North and did not go after Romania very hard. Once Berlin fell they quickly took most major German cities along this line of attack, went into Denmark, Austria, Hungary and even into Italy and France.
The US/UK could not establish a D-Day landing until Nov 1944 once I was so weakened from the russian front, they put more forces into Denmark wasting time trying to establish a second beach head after the invasion of France was succesful. I probably eliminated 8 - 12 different landings because they were always one or two unit invasions that I could wipe out and recover from. They tried to invade southern France and were not successful until I tried to rush forces back to Berlin to delay it's collapse.
Once Berlin fell, the US/UK troops still did not drive south into undefended French cities or try to invade Italy in any way. There were no German troops but they ignored Italy. USSR troops are very aggressive and went after Italy.... Rome did not fall until late 1945, so Italy was able to survive for seven months on her own.

It was hard to play it through once I had no chance of even putting up much of a defense but it was educational on how the computer opponent handles complete dominance in every arena. The AI did not try to go after my subs, I was sinking US units right up to the fall of Berlin.. all the destroyers were busy clogging up the channel and performing shore bombardments. My german manpower went down to -329 before the end but even with the fall of Ploesti oil was not an issue.. probably because I had so few units and was trying to maintain a static defense.
