One question from our game last night.
At the beginning of the battle both sides receives their full allotment of command points ? Or do we have to play turn one without any command points.
It only makes sense to have command points at the start, and we played it as such, but we could not find it in the book.

You begin with them.

Thanks a lot, do you also have a reference somewhere in the Rulebook ?

Re: Command points at start of game
Nice follow up question Esben!
I'm not aware that it actually says this anywhere in the rules. It is more something that everyone (or the dozen or so people I have played against at least) have just assumed. It would certainly slow the game if the player with the initiative could not do double moves in the first turn.
If looking for justification in the rules, I would look to page 26 "All Command points are returned to their respective commanders at the end of a player's own recovery phase".
This (arguably) implies that command points aren't 'given' to generals (other than a CC giving his to a DC) but rather are inherant in a general, who uses them up as the turn progresses and gets them back again in their recovery phase. You couldn't 'return' CPs if you didn't have them to start with - ie generals start the game with CPs.
Pretty thin I know, but in the absence of a rule saying that generals do not start the game with any points, good enough for me.
Cheers

A very well constructed response Brett, which also happens to be right. You're not a lawyer are you?!
In all the UK competitions which Terry Shaw plays in, thats how it works so I guess it must be right.!

Thanks for clarifying both the question and our lacking ability of finding an answer.

We didn't even consider writing a rule for this.I'm not aware that it actually says this anywhere in the rules. It is more something that everyone (or the dozen or so people I have played against at least) have just assumed. It would certainly slow the game if the player with the initiative could not do double moves in the first turn.
Logicially - If the commanders don't start the game with command points they could never be 'returned' to their commanders during the recovery phase.
Therefore - if they don't start the game with CPs they would never have any!
