Persia british convoy
How do i know how many trucks have escaped? I don't want to waste time playing over 20 turns if i can't get DV. And are they going east? Mission briefing should be more precise.
EDIT: Ok i checked the triggers and exit point from editor. Problem solved. This can be deleted.

Re: Persia british convoy
Actually this is a problem I find once in a while. In missions that ask you to do something with a number of objectives there is no counter to let you know how you are doing. This is really a bug to me since I have to count the objectives destroyed using a pen and paper method which is silly. Im talking about scenasios such as gazala line, Kampinoska forest and other similar ones. Really adding a counter would simplify the game.
Re: Persia british convoy
OK, I'm flummoxed by this scenario. I have not been able to do more than catch sight of a few convoy trucks. By the time I succeed in interdicting the roads along which they appear to be traveling, the announcer tells me that the convoy trucks have all escaped. I have tried blasting through the Soviets and Americans in the rough ground to my north and northeast (too slow) and blasting straight through the minefields and Americans to my east to the open ground in the British zone (also too slow). I am playing on FM with an utterly unremarkable core, the usual mix of the usual stuff. This is the first AK scenario in which I cannot get even close to a DV. Any pointers?
Re: Persia british convoy
Attack from air? Use of air transport for interception with infantry?
Re: Persia british convoy
Thanks for the tip. I thought about that, but there sure are a LOT of enemy units in the air and in the rear, and not too much air transport is available. Maybe I overestimate the size of the force needed for this part of the task. I'll give the airborne tactic a try.uran21 wrote:Attack from air? Use of air transport for interception with infantry?

Re: Persia british convoy
hmm I didn't think this was that hard. I think I had one escape at 1 health, otherwise it worked fine.
Here's how I did it. Use mountain troops and artillery to move north west of the mountains. Use nearly your entire core to breat to northeast, mostly ignoring the americans except the most northern ones to reach the roads and coast ASAP. Don't leave and forces behind, ignore the west of the mine fields. Just leave a few infantry one artillery, flak and maybe a StuG to defend bagdad and entrench there. once the americans push over the river, let them, incercept them with air and finish them off with the units in bagdad once they try to cap the airfields. Then continue on with your main force towards teheran and then south again. help out with the bagdad forces on the middle south victory hex city after all tanks your side of the river are dealt with. cross the river far east with the bridge engineers, join up with your south marching main force. worked for me like a charm. i completely ignored the middle east of the mine fields, instead completely bypassed the forces there going along the coast via Teheran

Re: Persia british convoy
And thanks for that feedback as well. It sounds like a DV in this scenario requires a one-two punch (i.e., a sequential rather than concurrent pursuit of DV and MV objectives). I will try a combination of the "all out northern" strategy with a suicide mission for a few select airborne troops (to seize the suspected exit hex) and see how it goes!

Best to scout the exit hex area with a fighter first. If there is no armor or heavy artillery near it, go for it. But best capture an airfield nearby fast since you will have to protect those FsJg with a fighter, otherwise they'll get wasted by bomber attacks I suspect. Although those might focus on your main force. But it is certainly worth a try. Just remember to keep some forces in bagdad

Re: Persia british convoy
I myself use the push to the NE through the mountains that KeldorKatarn practices.
A few hints to save losses.
Let the AI air attack first, but defend your units with fighters out of the spotting range of the AI. You will need plenty of fighters, maybe some Flak if you have some experienced units to counterpunch the AI fighters. When I first played this scenario I lost an experienced fighter as three AI fighters ganged up on mine. Be cautious with your air.
I had two Tigers to support the NE advance, which allowed me to blast my way through the hill country and take on the Russian armor. I was able to cut the road ahead of the convoy.
I set up an ambush South of Baghdad when I played this. It is far enough South to minimize the chance of AI interception so a good place to use your bombers. An artillery, a couple good AT units and you can put the hurt on the AI big time. Then use the bridge engineer to cross the river, skirt the AI units in the open, just capturing the cities/airfields as you advance towards the South and East. No need to engage every unit you see, just the ones near objectives.

Re: Persia british convoy
Surprisingly for me, I just achieved a DV in Persia. During my first Afrika Korps game, I did not succeed in that, despite trying repeatedly using different tactics.
No I am replaying the game - with an Italian-Only core (although I allow myself engineers, SE units and, of course, captured units), and got a DV on the first try. I positioned all my units in the central desert, including my two engineers, which stood in the front line. During turn one, they created a path through the two hex deep minefield, allowing my tanks to push through. With the practically invulnerable Churchhill in front, backed by Semovente SPA, the convoy trucks were annihiliated like daffodils under a lawnmower. Convoy #2 seemed to pose a problem, but on a closer look it was only 4 trucks, which I could hunt with tactical bombers and fighters. By that time, I had complete control over the airspace - my two units of 90mm AA, with heros and three stars saw to that.
The rest of Persia fell prey to scripted AI stupidity - in few levels inactive units seem weirder than here. Even as I drove around them and killed their comrades behind the lines, a couple of front line tanks still sat in the desert motionless, being oblivious to Persia going down in flames.

I have to add my support to the strategy of concentrating on the north first. The American counter-attack to Baghdad can be easily defeated by air along with one or two land units such as a Tiger (although AT units will probably also be enough) and infantry backed by artillery. The forces in the north can then attack the landing craft as they approach later in the scenario.
Re: Persia british convoy
I had done DV on this before in FM difficulty but I cannot do one again now. The 4th truck was about to escape so I stopped. I think my air core is not as strong this time around compared to my previous core. I can rewatch braccada's play on this on YouTube for some ideas again. Tough one for the convoy interception...

I did this on Double rommel a year ago. If you search my channel you will see my successful playthrough of this scenariomuftugil wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 3:19 am I had done DV on this before in FM difficulty but I cannot do one again now.
