Reims report (scenario 20)

Post by charonjr »

Reims - Colonel - previous DV

K, reapirs were very costly this time (all elite) with about 2k prestige spend there - 1700 prestige left.

And it would be nice to be able to see the briefing again, I saved after finishing the previous scenario yesterday and am not 100% what the briefing said.

Reread the briefing and yes, the counter-attack from Vouziers looks good ;)

Should have brought move Bf109s (just 2 here), but at least the Bf110D is fairly good vs. enemy tac and strat bombers - the actual number of enemy planes looks a tad high (which is good for the game, but looks a bit unrealistic to me anyway).

Between the 3 cities in the SSE there was just 1 defender, maybe at least each of those 3 cities should have at least 1 defender (turn 11).

Ah, and I got myself a CharB1 , but as with the earlier Matilda II the armor is nice, but the speed is bad.

The game was won at turn 14, but I decided to delay to get some of my newer units some XP.

In the end it is a DV at turn 20/20 with 2060 prestige - nice scenario, mainly due to the fairly large counter-attack, but as I said before IMO it would be good if there were some additional defenders (then again Colonel difficulty is not supposed to be this hard - will try Fieldmarshall for the next campaign).

If you dont mind, please delay your second play back on field marshal until the update is available.

There is a fairly extensive changelog coming up:

Also just finished the Reims scenario and it was really great.
As earlier posted the scenario was great thanks to the large french counter-attack. The mathilda was worth its weight in gold :). I softened up the enemy tanks with planes, artillery and finished them off with my pzjägers and tanks. I finished the mission in 14 turns, and i also captured the CharB. I'm left with 1923 prestige points.

I suppose the scenario might have been more devastating if the french not only counter-attacked in the centre and right-wing, but also at the left wing. Or just what Napoleon did at Waterloo.... a full scale attack aimed at the centre after his attacks at the flanks were repulsed.

I just wonder if the captured equipment fills up core slots or not counted as the SE units?

I just beat this scenario, and another very solidly crafted piece of work. As usual, the counterattacks were be deadly, I lost an 88 that was in transit to an unexpected attack.

I was especially overjoyed by this one because I captured a Char B1 after capturing Suppes in the the southwest corner. It is beautiful! I named it "Charlemagne". It seemed that approaching this city triggered a massive counterattack by Captain Armando and quite a few other forces. i finally got a decisive victory on turn 20/20. By the deployment phase of the next campaign, I had around 2200 prestige in the bank, the most I have had in a while! There were elite replacements all around!

I like how you model the disintegration of the French army in this one. You start to see more and more 5 strength units guarding the way. A nice touch.

This was really a very fun one and I think perfectly balanced. Kudos!

I played it after the upgrade and despite a victory - the final objective is only weakly defended by numerous very weak units, the other objective to the east was not defended at all - this scenario was very hard for me.

The fighters/bombers and tanks all attacked around turn 7 and caused tremendous damage and delayed me quite some time.
Next time I would try to sneak some units by left and right and maybe utilize the bridge engineer for that.

All in all this scenario scared me. But you seem to have dealt better with it. The Char B1 sweetened the bitter pill, I lost core units and Prestige. Hope the next one is easier, need to recover.

Bigger map? Yep. Less time? Yup. Easier battles? Yup.

So is the next map easier? I dunno, that's a matter of perspective. It should be somewhat less hard fought though. ;)
Historically the French army was really falling apart around this time too, so it fits historically too.
