I do think we need to keep in mind this is an era where masses of poor were annhilated by better quality troops.

which era are you talking about? 3000 BC - 1500 AD?

There are quite a few armies in the biblical period that have poor troops which are not skirmishers.

Right. And they were often slaughtered by the elites of the period. Maryannu chariotry etc.

I have no problem with the main use of poor BGs being filler. That was their main function historically, for most of the troops classified as poor anyway. And with a cap on army break points the problem of a horde of poor filler troops is greatly diminished.


I would let it be as it is.
