Yes, the game is password protected a long digit number. Must also be plotted with each patch.
Matrix give normal the following choices: digital download only
digital download and the boxed game
only the boxed game.
The choice is Yours

The proof of the pudding is in the taste (that by the way is the CORRECT phrasing of that famous quote).
In this case, the proof of Matrix Games, is in how many games they have that are actually established greats.
I am pleased that the game is going through Matrix Games.
Myself, I am a digital downloader fan, I don't require a pointless box, a disc I can burn myself, a label on a disc I can likely do better myself and a manual? well heck 50% of the manuals printed in the hobby are a waste of paper. Of the other half, 50% of the manual is still a lot of fluff and wasted paper in most cases. The number of manuals I have gained that I thought "wow, this manual rocks" won't exceed the fingers of my right hand.
But, no sweat, Matrix Games has decided in recent times, that enough of you blokes want the durn manual. And as such, games today come in all the methods you can ask for. Fast easy cheaper digital download, or DD with hard copy mailed to ya, and with manual.
And Matrix Games makes a game that is just an installer file. That means you can burn that file anywhere you feel like. It's just data. There is no secret to burning the file. No uber powerful software required. A pet monkey could safely store their games. The security lies in there use of a serial. And that serial better be legit, because the next patch will know if it's bogus. And while a illegal vanilla copy might float the boat of a cheapo, we all know our wargames need to be kept updated and maintained with all the latest improvements. Not needing patches or updates only works for mainstream schlock.
How many times can you install a game based on an installer file you ask? Interestingly this question seems to appear all the time. It's an installer file, nothing more. That's all it is. It's worthless without a serial though. You can use your serial and install it 1 time or 100 times if you actually had that many computers eh. But, according to the legalese, your supposed to just use one install. Otherwise, the other copy is supposed to be a back up.
There's no farting around with net connections with Matrix Games. No buggered logic jump through hoops convoluted copy protection. You simply need a legit serial. And that comes with your purchase (which you immediately write down in several locations if you have a brain
). That, and for the DDers among us, you do NOT spend weeks before making your backup copy that is stored OFF your computer eh. Come on people, this is day one basic computer 101 stuff they teach total noobs hehe
My list of games is getting longer and longer, and it's mostly a list of Matrix Games. The reasons are mostly attributable to most of the above. I buy games published by companies that know how to do things right.
Commander from Slitherine released through Matrix Games is going to be a receipe for success.

So, since some lucky people already have seen the new screens is there any chance they'll appear for us all?

Yes, the losses count looks very promising. I really hope the game will be out soon...
Borsook, you sound as keen as myself. Well if you like you can send me a file if you want to kick off a multiplayer game, dont mind what side just send a file.
