I like the way impact currently works. One of the best features of FOG. It allows out numbered, but elite troops a chance to cut thru hordes like a hot knife thru butter. If they fail to force a negative result at impact, then the hordes swarm arround their flanks and get overlaps in melee.
Clear the battlefield and let me see

As has been said to me many times in the V2 forum, line up properly, hit with one file of your 2 and take 3 dice against 3, or hit with both in the middle or to one side it will be 4 small BG dice to 5 large BG dice.olivier wrote:Oh, and what about a 4 base BG of lancer against a 8 Bases BG of infantry impacting in the middle??? As they are overlapped, must have they more dice against them? Don't seem a good solution.

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

I think incentivising micromanagement to optimise your charge is probably not the way to go.philqw78 wrote:As has been said to me many times in the V2 forum, line up properly, hit with one file of your 2 and take 3 dice against 3, or hit with both in the middle or to one side it will be 4 small BG dice to 5 large BG dice.olivier wrote:Oh, and what about a 4 base BG of lancer against a 8 Bases BG of infantry impacting in the middle??? I suspect giving overlaps one extra dice per 2 might balance the quality vs quantity thing better. A 4-base good BG on ++ currently fights on even terms double overlapped even if the charge does no damage and ignoring quality (which is usually better for the small BG).
Historically, I suspect such an attack would be more likely to achieve a local penetration rather than rout a huge section of battleline that has mostly not been engaged. Unfortunately FOG cannot model that.

I suspect any involvement of overlaps in impact will lead to problems with the contriving of unusual impacts.
I have rarely seen the minimising of frontage to negate the effect of better impact factors. In practice, weaker troops often expand their frontage to get the overlaps in melee. I don't believe there is anything broken that needs fixing here.
