And another version as I'm not sure which would look better in-game (or if the difference between them will be visible at all). Both are the same except the latter has the wiring shown.
Cheers

And a quick teaser: coming up next are Suffren and Gneisenau battleships. Stay tuned :)

I already have icons for the heavier ships, so there isn't much point making them. In one of my forums I have a pic of Jutland, which has a bunch of icons made by guille.

Halibutt would you interested to make some naval units for my ww2 campaign?.

Sure, I could export Bf1942 units. PM me with what you need. The game has:
Japanese:
  • Shōkaku carrier
  • Akizuki-Class DD
  • Yamato-class BB
  • Type VIIC sub
  • 103-class landing ship
  • Mogami class cruiser/carrier
  • B3 type cruiser submarine
Allies:
  • Yorktown-class aircraft carrier
  • Fletcher-class destroyer
  • King George V-class BB
  • Gato-class submarine
  • LST-1 landing barge
Plus a number of small vessels. LVCP, commando rafts, Schnellboots, PT boats and such.

We only have a dreadnought and a pre-dreadnought (and Asuser's icon is a little off-scale when it comes to other icons' perspective). I believe this pre-dreadnought BB is slightly better than that one. Plus, this BB doesn't have a German naval ensign flying over it :) Judge for yourselves.

You're not really in the encouraging mood, are you :) Also, how the hell is one to enforce gunboat diplomacy without a proper gunboat? Here it is then, enjoy. In Battlefield:Europe there is a riverine flotilla unit that can travel both at sea and upstream Danube, Dnieper or any other river. It would be ideal if you could mimic that behaviour for this little gem.

I'll consider your Pre-Dreadnaught graphic then. BTW, Pre-dreadnaughts are represented in this as heavy cruisers, while other "cruisers" are CLs. Destroyers will also be considered (I have guille's DD from about a month ago that made its way into v1.2).

The river boat? I don't think any of those fought in the trenches. I do have a few naval scenarios planned for GC16, but none of those involve going uprivers (An escort mission, where you escort men to Ireland in prep. for the Easter rising / A shore bombardment of England, and 2 Jutland-style engagements)

However, making new versions of ships is semi-pointless, and your skills will be more useful making graphics that I don't already have. I won't get in your way, but am suggesting that new units are more important than existing ones. (If you want one to start on, do the Berg D.I fighter)

I understand that you're trying to be helpful and such, but I would prefer it if we kept this forum to just WWI stuff. There is a button called "Start a new thread", I'm sure that will be of a lot of use to you both.

Not in the treches, no. But they were pretty active in all the other theatres. Both Russians and the Central Powers used them in the Pripet Marshes, they were at times the heaviest core of the force in Africa and so on. And in most post-WWI conflicts (Polish-Bolshevist War of 1919-1920 comes to mind).

Sorry, I have only Etrich Taube, Albatros D.II and Albatros C.III for Austria-Hungary. Plus Fokker Dr.I, Fokker D.VII, Halberstadt D.V, Albatros D.II and Hansa-Brandenburg W 29 floatplane for Germany. Unless of course someone around here has a decent 3D model I could use?

Then you surely need something to transport the men, right? A vanilla Liberty Ship is not really the best for that task, is it. How about this WWI-era transport ship? :)

Just to keep things rolling, I decided to give the Entente some heavy airpower as well. Here's one of the first brainchildren of Frederick Handley Page, the Handley Page O/400. Again, as with the Gotha bomber, it's not entirely up to scale. The reason is this WWI bomber was almost the same size as the WWII Handley Page Halifax. Halifax fits nicely in the sprite frame because it was a low-wing monoplane and from this perspective the low wing partially hides behind the fuselage. However, the O/400 was a biplane, and the upper wing is waaay to large to fit, so I had to make it slightly smaller than in reality.

I got the impression that I have successfully stolen this thread for myself. But what can I do, I have to hurry before my Cinema 4D and 3DS Max trials expire in 17 days :)

Here's another funny unit, this time for the Hun: the "L/12 42-cm M-Gerät 14", better known as the Big Bertha. A huge 42 cm howitzer/mortar, used to destroy the heaviest fortifications the Entente had.

And another quickie: a French airship. This one is Lebaudy brothers' "Patrie", though the French Army used a number of similar airships throughout the war.

And another rare aircraft from BF1918 converted - this time the Felixstowe F.2 flying boat. As usually, this one too is slightly smaller than it should be due to enormous upper wing. BTW, the plane is in Royal Naval Air Service's livery.

It would be great to see all those units, too! However, the Berg D.I is a very important and unique Austro-Hungarian plane, just as the Brandenburg C.I and D.I. Those would be a must for the Austrian Flying Corps.

The French airship and the Dicke Bertha should be made bigger, I guess. Other than that great job, I like the ships as well! Please keep up the good work!

And maybe buy those programs so that you can continue to make great icons after the trial period ends!

Sadly, no 3D models mean I cannot do much. It would take ages to prepare the 3D model (I did some way back when, for HoI 1 sprites, but I'm but an amateur. And the ones I see on-line are way too expensive to buy them just to make a tiny tiny sprite...
McGuba wrote:The French airship and the Dicke Bertha should be made bigger, I guess. Other than that great job, I like the ships as well! Please keep up the good work!
Actually Dicke Bertha is already larger than in reality :) It was almost 5.88 metres long (not counting the barrel), so I made it the size of in-game Bishop SP gun (in reality 5.6 metres long). And the French airship in reality was much smaller than the German Zeppelins. To compare it to something, the Republique was 61 metres long while theLZ37 was... 100 metres longer (yup, it was 163 metres long).

Here you go mate, a brand-new Nieuport 11 in Russian markings. Straight from the Dux factory in St. Petersburg. The skull and bones was used by a number of Russian aces, among them Vasili Yanchenko.
