Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your result here . . .
Weekly round-up
There is a very "Gallic and Roman" feel to the early exchanges in Classical Antiquity this season. Sennacherib (Thracian Getae) still leads in Division A but 2 wins for harveylh (Gallic) has halved the gap with hidde (Numidian) in third. It is very quiet in Divisions B and C where wins for SLancaster (Roman) and oscarius (Sertorius) has seen them move to the top of their respective tables. There has been a lot more action in the lower divisions though. In Division D Warg1 (Roman) has put a good run together to go top ahead of Rob123 (Gallic) who has 3 wins from 5 starts. Kerait (Roman) has started out in pursuit of the early leader joggy (also Roman) with 2 wins in Division E and Badger73 (Roman) is the frontrunner in Division F with angel42052 (Achaemenid) starting well with 2 wins out of 2 starts.
Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
Rob123 (Division D) 4 matches
Warg1 (Division D) 3 matches
Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 9 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 4 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 6 out of 45 matches completed
Division D - 12 out of 45 matches completed
Division E - 11 out of 45 matches completed
Division F - 10 out of 45 matches completed
Player of the Week: Warg1 (Division D) with 4 wins this week.

Weekly round-up
It is still very quiet in most of the divisions in this section with little to report apart from Warg1's (Scots-Irish) exploits in Division D, where he has won 8 matches in a row! Only Aetius39 (Bosporan) stands in the way of a clean sweep now. In Division E Barrold713 (Palmyran) has secured a second win to go 1 point ahead of Rob123 (Germanic Horse Tribes) who has also won his first 2 games. In Division F wellsonian (Roman) is the new leader with 4 wins from 6 after TomoeGozen (Soissons) suffered his first defeat. Conteshard (Byzantine) has started with 2 straight wins.

Re: FOG2DL given clean bill of health by Slitherine review . . .
I am fairly certain it is because of the stalled game. I have seen that message a couple of times.76mm wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:48 am Iain, I have a question: in the game I mentioned where I was winning 56-64, the other player never returned the turn. After a week I "claimed" the stalled game, and when I clicked on it in the Completed Games tab, I got a message that "Player was removed from the game: [PlayerName]".
I've never seen that message before...he didn't surrender, so was he removed because of the stalled game, or for some other reason?

Weekly round-up
A first win for defending champion Nosy_Rat (Spanish) in Division A. Nosy_Rat has now gone an incredible 27 consecutive matches without being beaten in this section, the last defeat being the first match in Season 6 (October 2019) to CheAhn. Newcomer LuciusSulla (Andalusian) has gone to the top of Division B with 2 wins from his first 2 starts, while in Division C a second win for Warg1 (Arab Conquest) has seen him move level at the top with Karvon (also Arab Conquest). There has been lots of activity in a Division D that looks to be wide open. joggy (Serbian) is still out in the lead and no-one else yet has put together a consistent run to challenge him. kronenblatt (Rus) has extended his lead at the top of Division E to 5 points after TomoeGozen (Byzantine) suffered a second defeat. In Division F both wellsonian (Byzantine) and CoryC (Abbasid) have 12 points at the top and are well clear of the others at the moment.

Division C
Karvon - Arab (Conquest) 629-637 AD defeated General Shapur - British 600-1030 AD with Viking 780-899 AD allies 40-12 for a 4-0 win.
The field was dominated by a large steep rocky slope in the left center with an apron of a gentle slope wrapping around the British side and the center. A large gentle hill lay on the right flank of the British side forming a valley of sorts. This valley, in the British center, was partially filled with a fair sized wood with a track running down the middle. Another fair sized wood fell on the British right flank down slope from the rocky hill. Two large woods anchored the Arab left and right flanks. This wasn't a very inviting looking location for our fight given the overwhelming advantage the British had in medium infantry. It would definitely be a challenge.
We max'ed out our light infantry and massed bow to give us a potent softening up force against the expected British defensive posture. We took a couple of camels to bolster our four lancers vs the potential small Brit horse contingent. We added a couple of Bedouin foot to give us a token strike force in small patches of rough terrain which our spear might venture by. That left us with about a dozen of our superior spear to sweep the open ground with. Fully expecting the Brit's to mass on their right to occupy the steep hill, we massed on our own right facing the gentle hill and central woods. Our light foot screened our spears while our medium foot advanced in support on the right. Our plan was to avoid a direct assault on the steep hill, and focus on whatever bits of the Brits we might be able to catch on the low ground or around the woods - though that might prove uncrackable if he deployed medium foot enmass there.
As it turned out, the Brit's made a bee line for the steep hill, crowding its large summit with a host of medium foot. A handfull of heavy infantry, a mix of Huscarls and various grades of shieldwall deployed on the lower gentle slopes on the left side of the large hill. A token force of four cavalry screened the left flank behind the hill a few light foot were thrown out as a screen in front of the medium foot and shieldwall. A pair of light horse advanced out ahead of their position to harass my advance. My light horse spent much of the battle playing cat and mouse with them.
Initially, my force advanced slowly escheloning to my right in order to swing around the right side of the central woods. As I observed the mass migration to the hill, I cautiously scouted the woods with my light foot and found them deserted. I redirected my lights to advance and skirmish with the enemy horse guarding their left. I moved my mediums, horse and camels to support them. My spears split, half moving along the left side of the woods, just down slope of the British mass, and the rest moving along the track and wheeling left to support the advance toward the enemy horse. Our skirmishers dispatched about half of the enemy cavalry and the rest fell back further in an attempt to escape, one to a hamlet and the other to the hill and the shelter of friends. Some of our camels and mediums assaulted the cavalry in the hamlet, while our light moved up to effective range of the Brit shieldwall and unleashed a barrage on it. Our spears formed up in line to threaten the shieldwall from behind the screen. Some cavalry begin working around the open enemy left to threaten the flank and rear.
The British responded by slowly shifting the bulk of their medium foot down the steep hill and attempting to turn my left, now resting on the central woods, by infiltrating around through the woods. They also pushed forward off the gentle slopes to engage my spearline. I refused my left, retiring a couple of spears and held in the center while my right pushed forward to envelope and engage shieldwall elements disrupted or fragmented by missile fire. Skirmishers flanked the line and concentrated fire to break a couple of units cowering behind. My flanking cavalry finished off one or two others. The cavalry hiding in the hamlet was finally overwhelmed and fled with a couple of my mounted in pursuit. My Bedouins holding the end of the line in the woods got out flanked and died fighting the Brit medium foot, but losses on the the Brit left were enough to break the army.

Weekly round-up
Nothing much to report in Division A yet, but in Division B XLegione has posted a third straight win to go ahead of Cunningcairn who has 2 wins from 2 starts. MorkinTheFree has made a great start in Division C winning his first 6 matches and now looks to be a strong favourite for automatic promotion. In Division D a seventh win for Aetius39 has seen his lead over Warg1 extended to 5 points, but he still needs to beat kraff 4-0 in his last match to be sure of finishing ahead of him. Warg1 still has to play third-placed Barrold713 twice. Rob123 is the new leader in Division E but wmpryor is only 4 points behind with 2 games in hand. Still very much all to play for in Division F where joggy has finished his matches and set a very modest early target of 21 points to beat. Only SSB does not have a chance of reaching that target.

Division B
SLancaster (Roman 199-106 BC with Greek 227-146 BC allies) defeated Morbio (Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203BC with Samnite 355-272 BC allies). 62-39.
A very nice opponent. He played well and didn't get the rallies at the end. Carthaginian 216 BC is a tough army so I am pleased to get through it. I am sure he will do well with them.
