The forces of Tuam in the province of Mytilene are once again begging the intercession of the benign Peter the Ajudicator.

Will they be able to stay and tough out the harsh Mytilene winter in a province stripped bare by conflict or will the remnants of the Yorkist force raise their seige and limp homewards after the very costly draw fought in the first frosts of winter?

Candles have been lit and relics of the blessed ajudicator processed at the army's post battle services.

Or having fought the relieving force to a standstill, against appalling odds, will the bloodied but indomitable Yorkists (Kappadokians) accept the surrender of the starving Mytilenians?

I think peter roles the dice to see how long the city holds out. The defeat of the relieving force probably has no bearing on that.

Defeat of the relieving force!!!!
Where did that come from?
This slander means another war!
Has Utopia become an apologist for Kappadokian aggression against our Delian allies or simply a dupe for Kappadokian propoganda.

This was a draw not a defeat but a draw with 65% Yorkist casualties and 27% Irish.
There are not enough Yorkists left after their fighting us to a standstill to share a large pot of Yorkshire tea.

Tuam puts Utopia on notice that come spring we shall be coming visiting via Crimea and Eygpt to teach the Utopian spin doctors a thing or two.
Several bars of whiskey perfumed tallow soap and a couple of coleens happy to start bubblette training have been sent to Blathergut to confirm permission to cross Egypt.

Despite being within a days march; sadly our forces in Mytilene have heard it reported that the starving citizens of Mytilene have opened the gates of their city to the two yorkshiremen and three ferrets that are all that remain of the yorkist beseiging force.
The army of Tuam will remain to give battle again if food, weather (and rules permit).

Hold on there cowboy! I was just advising the Kappadolians that the city won't necessarily fall. That it was a draw matters not to Utopia. I'll have to take another look at the map to see where and what you are. Perhaps I'll pay you a visit.

I can confirm the truth of this - sadly the city was at the point of starvation when the relief army arrived. A win would have saved the city but they cannot survive the winter & so open their gates to the Kappadokians.

Thank you for your brave efforts Triarius.

Mytilene falls then and with it my highly cultured population pass into the bondage and tyranny of the 'Yorkists'.

no more Bacchanalia...:-(
no more Dionysian celebrations...:-(
no more Tragic plays, Sophistry and unfathomable highbrow art... :-(
no more ineffective 'Democratic' government...:-(
no more Corn dole or jury duty for the lazy citizens ...:-(

Oh GREAT WOE !, the laments of wailing women and the dark smoke of the funerary pyres darkens the land.

You need to ask the victor if he will allow you honours of war or will he sell you army into slavery (affects whose treasury get the points).

Oh, into slavery of course, they are clearly too decadent to live free.

War in Spring.

Although winter is here our thoughts have turned, over a tumbler of Redbreast whiskey, to the next campaigning season.

When the spring thaw arrives Tuam's armies will invade:-
1) Utopia via our allies Crimea and Egypt
This is on the basis that Utopians believe everything they read in the papers and need to be taught otherwise.
2) Clan Brave via our allies of the Delian Confederation
This is on the basis that they are still mis-spelling whiskey and they they were not in Tuam long enough to be properly instructed otherwise.!

Because we are truely honourable Irish gents a season's warning is being given.

I'll have you know, I am a journalist by trade and don't believe anything as a consequence. Oh, and as you have a proper army, I'm looking forward to your visit. Got some Glanfarclas just for you in my camp.

Remember: with the end of winter is also the end of all non-permanent alliances...until they are renewed anyway!

FYI the Yorkists were not from Yorkshire, in fact they were rather unpopular in the North of England, at least until after the (very popular) Richard of Gloucester (later Dick the Shit) had been Edward IV's viceroy up there for some time. The Wars of the Roses were not a rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire, but between royal cousins of the Duchies of York and Lancaster. Not the same thing at all.

Incidentally, Edward IV and Richard III were the first English kings since 1066 to speak English as their native language. Their predecessors spoke French.

Did kings before 1066 speak english then? Just curious.

Hopefully there are only a few battles from Fall left to finish & report.

We can then do the Winter & Spring phases (as there are no outstanding sieges I believe). This will consist of the following:-

1 Army maintenance for those who choice to keep any armies in the field.
2 BDM - I'm about to inform each player of the number & sex of eligible royal off-spring. Royal marriages can then be arranged to permanently cement countries together & to hopefully provide heirs for your royal lines.
3 Random event cards will be drawn & notified. These have to last until Summer so good luck selecting the right moment to play them.
4 Diplomacy - you can create any formal one year alliances, i.e. non-agression pacts
5 Build / Improve Cities and PR Events. However these will not be complete until Fall.

Then it's the Spring campaign turns.

One more player is able to join the campaign as well.
