Side Shooting Horse Archers

Post by Eques »

Hi

Most of the horse archer figures I have are shooting to the side. Is it possible to base them without making it look as if they're shooting at their comrades?

Thanks

At an angle on the base so the bows point past their friends.

I base mine with the archers pointing to the front.. to me it gets the effect that the LH are shooting/scooting...

Be prepared to explain a few times during the games which way they are facing....

Looks better to me...

Turning them slightly to the side as mentioned works, I'd also suggest seeing about getting some that arn't shooting. But that can get iffy

if you are really into making your life difficult you could try cutting off the arms and then relocating them so your troops are shooting forward or even to the rear if you cut at the waist.

Offsetting on the base is much easier and cheaper though

I use 10mm figures and I base them racing around in a circle. Looks really good. The only problem is that the front isn't as obvious because the front of a circle looks the same as the back, so I painted the front edge brown and the side edge black. I also have the ones 'shooting' at the 'front' and the ones 'at rest' at the 'back'.

I think it probably adds to a bit of confusion for my poor enemy, but for the most part I haven't had any complaints.

At Historicon - I saw that Marc the Shark Boy had his horse archers mounted at about a 45 degree angle to the front of the stand like they were turning + firing. The bases LOOKED FREAKING Sharp - I am going to rebase some of mine and try it. I like the idea
