25mm on 6x4

Post by footslogger »

This isn't a rules question per se, but more of an experience question. In the games we play here in Chicago we play 25s on larger tables (8x5 or 8x6 or 9x6) using a 40mm MU and 800 points. I'm arranging a tournament coming up with smaller point values (either 600 or 650) on 6x4s. I gather this is pretty much normal for the UK 25mm events. In those events is it also with standard MUs (25mm or 1")? Are there any modifications that are normally used that it would be helpful for me to consider? Thanks much, - f

Not that I know but I've only played one 25mm Comp but from watching many I could'nt see anything special or have read any special rules.

For 600 or 650 points for 25mm on a 6 by 4 use 1" MUs. One of the main reasons the 25mm MU is the same as 15mm is so that 25mm players can actually use light troops and mounted effectively on a 4' deep table.

25mm on a 9 by 6 using a 40mm MU is essentially scaled up 15mm in every way. Using a 40mm MU on a 4' deep table will really tilt the field in favour of heavy foot armies.

we've been playing 25mm on 4x6 at 600pts or so and thoroughly enjoyed. When we've cranked up to 800-1000pts we've used a 8x4 and it has played well. In everyy case using 25mm MU. We've found increasing the table width benefits certain armies/tactics where the barbarian centres try to delay contact with roman heavies :) But the 4' width gives a good game without the extendo-arms needed. Terrain can sometimes be thick if spanish hills are the location :)...but then sometimes sparse too...always makes for an interesting game.

Recently played in a 725 point 28mm tournament on 6x4 tables with 1 inch MU. I was surprised to find that even with that many points it worked very well.

It does make life hard for cavalry armies, however, although a LH-heavy Sassanid army did pretty well - but only by sending 2 flank marches in every game bar the one they lost.

Played our first 28mm game last month at the club(normally 15mm). Found that 1" MU worked fine but we extended the range of the generals by 50% to take base size into account.

This is a one off for us where we can only get 6x4 tables. Will play exactly as written in the rules. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

One of the restristions we imposed for this format was a minimum of 110AP spent of generals. FCs and ICs were common and it meant people were more likely to use flank marches.

It was a format designed for doubles but works equally well as singles.
