Army list books - who decided the names ?

Post by Switzer »

Hi

Whoever decided some of the army list books names has a decided
pro-turk anti -byzantine bias reminiscent of gibbon at his worst.

Decline and Fall (byzantium at war)
errr no - the lists go to manzikert but the byzantine empire
had a silver age under the comneni only ended by the
crusader sack of constantinople in 1204!!!
Wrong title i think
Legions triumphant (imperial rome)
Not by the end of this book they werent by the patrician period
the legions were basically defensive blocks and the west had
fallen - its legions shattered at adrianople and the internecine
slaughter of the frigidus
Wrong again
Eternal Empire (the ottoman turks at war)
Eternal hmmm - 1300 ad - 1918 ( 600 years)
Byzantium -300 ad - 1453 (1150 years)
Whose eternal in those two ?

So renamed books =
Legions Triumphant becomes decline and fall
Decline and Fall becomes Eternal empire
Eternal Empire becomes Janissaries triumphant ?
Storm of sipahis ?

Only kidding guys - but i think im right
Anyone fancy an argument ?

Where does the title of Immortal Fire come from? Is it a literary allusion that I am missing?

I blame the marketing men ;)

Honestly none of the names of the books are my fault :) I can safely say that all my suggestions were rejected, mainly on the grounds of political correctness.

I really liked "Bastion of the Faith", "Cross and Crescent" etc.

There is a little discussion to decide the names, JD request opinion to the "Freak group" , and after no reaching any agreement the name is decided :). Similar procedure for the books covers.

As Hammy says, the political correctness finally wins.

I have to say that the most of names sounds good for my foreing ears, but not when are translated, here we used to hear a lot of titles and product names in English and all sounds similar for us.

I can quite honestly say that I didn't think Hammy was thinking "Cross and Crescent" when I heard his book names were disregarded for political reasons. Perhaps I have less faith in him than he deserves :)

Hi Switzer,

all the names came from my distorted mind, someone should bring the standard and my name came out the Hat ( or a rabbit , I don't remind )

so now you have a name or a guy to blame for that ;

if you search me to blame me I 'm in the Circus just inside the cage with the lions ;

Best Regards

And my "Riders on the Sand" and "The Book of Smiting" were both rejected in favour of something dull about
a history of birdwatching swifts and eagles in biblical times.

The Scots have no sense of humour, is all I can say

"The Book of Smiting" would have been a wonderful title.
