Contacting enemy flanks with LF.
I had a situation yesterday where my BG of LF was on the left hand table edge , and there was a gap just big enough for them to sqeeze through with millimetres to spare on each side. On their right, a friendly BG of axemen were fighting some enemy archers.
What were my options ?
Could i have ignored the archers and moved past them ?
Could i have moved into an overlap position. ( I think this is legal, but i'm not 100% sure.)
Could i have moved past them , turned 90 degrees, and then contacted their flank on the next move , but with more bases fighting?

Re: Contacting enemy flanks with LF.
Remeber that LF cannot fight against non skirmishers when in open ground. If archers were non skirmishers (for example MF) and they were fighting against your axemen in open ground, your LF couldn't do nothing. Otherwise, for example if the fight was in at last uneven ground, all options you cited are OK.zellak wrote:I had a situation yesterday where my BG of LF was on the left hand table edge , and there was a gap just big enough for them to sqeeze through with millimetres to spare on each side. I'm confused. Do you say I cannot charge with my LF, but I can join a melee in overlap? I thought that this wasn't permitted to LF in open.philqw78 wrote:LF cannot charge non-skirmishers, they may fight them. So this puts your move past and turn to contact out. You could just ignore the enemy and carry on going by, or you could move into an overlap position.

The enemy archers were MF, so i could not charge them . But i could move into contact as an overlap.
See page 75 of the rulebook. "Moving into contact with enemy battlegroups."
"It is not a charge , so is not subject to the restrictions that apply to charges."

I always assumed that, since you cannot charge, you cannot even move in overlap. But indeed this was wrong. Thank you for the clarification.zellak wrote:The enemy archers were MF, so i could not charge them . But i could move into contact as an overlap.

Can i ask another question following on from there ?
If my LF had joined the fight as an overlap.
The fight was between an enemy 4 base archer BG and a friendly 4 base Axemen BG.
Would the enemy archers have to designate one of their combat dice against the LF ?
