Crossbow vs Foot bow

Post by Cunningcairn »

How does a crossbow differ from a foot bow in the game? Where are it's POA's against different troop types listed in the rules?

I am guessing he means the difference between a crossbow unit and an archer unit (bowmen) given that footballer units are not in the game. Not sure it had even been invented then.

There aren't in the Manual because they did not exist in the base game.

The main difference is that (because of lower rate of fire) they are less effective than bow against infantry. This largely cancels out if the infantry are armoured, because bows are less effective against armoured troops but crossbows are not.

Likewise I had the feeling that crossbows were quite effective against armoured cavalry (compared to bows).

Thanks. Is it possible to state in this thread what POA penalties are against different opponents?
