Division A

Morbio - Roman (105-25 BC) with Numidian/Moorish (55 BC-6 AD) allies beats Triarii - Jewish (64BC-6AD) with Roman (105BC-25BC) allies 66-36

A lot of moving for position to start with until the lines engaged at east-west instead of the normal north-south. The Roman army had a slight lead at the start due to catching some theureophorea with LH and allowing the pursuing units to make short work of the stragglers, but then the Jewish managed to outflank a legion and it was level pegging. The battle was decided by the staying power of the Roman units, the prayers to Fortuna were answered!

Please note that Questar17 will be away until July 1st. Apparently all opponents that have matches in progress with him have been notified of this fact so I will not be accepting any claims for these matches on the basis that he has gone AWOL.

First Time Control check this Sunday 28th June . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

The first check is on Sunday. Players will need to have completed one match in each section they have entered or convince me that they have matches under way. Players who have entered the Themed Event are exempt from this check as those group stage matches take priority.

I have just had a look at the latest league tables and we look to be in pretty good shape across all sections of the tournament.

The second Time Control check will be on Sunday 12th July. Players will need to have completed 3 matches in each section they have entered by this date, the halfway stage of the tournament.

I have checked the multi-player lobby this morning for possible missed challenges. In the period from June 1st, up to and including June 15th (one week ago), I have found 13 matches on there that have not yet been picked up. So I have sent 13 messages to the players receiving those challenges (cc'ing the challenger) asking them to start as soon as possible.

Division E

snooky51- Carthaginian, (Hannibal in Italy, 216-203 BC with Samnite 355-272 BC) allies beats grumpydaddy845 - Samnite (355-272 BC with Campanian 420-281 BC allies) 43-3

Immensely unlucky day for my opponent, appeared the Samnites were unwilling to fight the eternal enemy of Rome. I counted at least 4 double drops within the first two rounds of melee. Line broke before his right flank could get to work rolling me up. Tough day at the office my friend.

Division B

Nijis (Fatimid Egyptian) defeats desertedfox (Viking with Irish allies) 56-23.

A fast-paced battle that did not turn decisively until the last turn or two. The Fatimids took up position on a ridge that afforded high ground for their archers and gave their cavalry a refuge to disengage. When gaps emerged in the Viking line, the cavalry were able to get in among the heavy foot. In all the small, unequal melees that followed, the horsemen's ability to hold out one or two extra turns when flanked often made a huge difference.

Division C

Swuul (Germanic/Gothic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD with Dacian, Carpi 107-380 AD allies) beat Bluefin (Scot-Irish 50 BC-476 AD) 45-9

A map with a rough hill on the left (seen from the germanic side) flank, which both sides decided to ignore. I wish I could say I had a stroke of geniousness in this battle, but I can't really do that. I placed the Lancers on left and told them to charge. I placed the Warbands in the center and told them to charge. I put the Falxmen and the light foot on my right and told them to try to survive. The lancers charged, and though one lancer broke, the rest tied down the opponents. The warbands charged, and ran over the scots and irish in front of them. The light foot evaded chariots for their life, and only one was caught by the chariots, and then it was game over as the scot-irish center collapsed as panic spread as a wildfire.
Thank you for the game Bluefin.
