FOGE to FOG II conversion question for Richard

Post by fractious_celt »

Hi, first of all I'm not too sure whether I should be posting this question here or in the FOG II forum, my apologies if I got it wrong ...

I am playing a battle whereby I have had to place three of my armies in one region in order to intercept a large Egyptian force of about 208,000 men. My total is around 66,000. I've noticed that none of my light cavalry - 18 units, mainly Macedonian light, have made it across to the battle. They would have been rather useful. Is this a normal part of the conversion process???

Thanks!

its going to be the effect of this (from 11.2.3 of the manual):
In larger battles the unit conversion ratio is down-scaled to keep the number of units manageable
in effect some smaller units may have been removed as part of this process. If I recall there is a random element here (see the rest of that section), so if you rerun the turn (you need to run from the end of turn point), you might generate a slightly different army.

The other option is that in FoG2 there is an option to scale up the conversions (so you get more units), that might create a slot for your smaller stuff?

Thanks Loki. I'll give the scaling effect a try.

This is correct. The randomness is done on a unit by unit basis, rather than all units of a certain type being aggregated first, so the sort of thing the OP describes can happen, particularly with light units, which have a low Empires>FOG2 conversion ratio anyway.

You can assume that any units that do not appear have been brigaded with other units, or are away foraging, scouting, guarding the camp etc.
