Q: Decorations
I feel like there are missing decorations. Does anyone see it?
Take a look at this picture.
[Note: I wouldn't allow the asian/tropical decors as those town decors. as they have taken another space on the hex.]
It doesn't have all the sides of decor.

Re: Q: Decorations
Decorations are not meant to fill the hex; that is what terrain is for. Decorations are for "sprinkling" buildings (and trees, etc.) around the map and for "softening" the hexagonal shapes of terrain hexes. Here are some examples of what I mean; I use decorations to enhance the realism of the map:
Note that in the editor, it appears that "It doesn't have all the sides of decor" but in the game (and with hex outlines turned off), decorations appear to look normally dispersed.
Also note where I have indicated with red arrows how a bunching of decorations around a village or forest hex softens the hexagonal terrain edges and makes villages and forests look more natural.

Re: Q: Decorations
I’d also recommend putting a forest decoration on a forest tile, so one of the surrounding forest decos look ‘attached’. This can make the forest seem to be more natural as well.
Klinger, you're dumber than you look, and THAT boggles the MIND.

Re: Q: Decorations
Yes, most definitely. I have done that too, to make forests look bushier. You can place decorations (only one at a time) on most terrain hexes for this purpose and others; I recall doing so with "city" decorations (the ones with some white roofs) on village hexes to gentrify them a bit.Zekedia222 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 8:55 pm I’d also recommend putting a forest decoration on a forest tile, so one of the surrounding forest decos look ‘attached’. Another thing, you can also use rivers to create small ‘islands’ and ‘sandbanks’.

Re: Q: Decorations
Yes I know, but it's hard to work with when coming across a missing decor for a town, city, etc. I usually have to find an alternative.
Even though it looks natural when everything's put into place; it just seems missing... I'll show an example when I open up OoB.

Re: Q: Decorations
And one day I might write a guide to decorating a map! It'll take some time though, as I haven't experimented with all of the functions with-in the scenario editor.

Re: Q: Decorations
Here,
It is not a city decor, which is a bummer since there isn't a city decor for that designated space on a hex, only the town decor has all the sides.
Which comes back to me saying it looks like some decor's are missing.
I wanted more of a natural feel to it(have a city decor replaced for that town decor), but the town decor has to be the alternative.

Re: Q: Decorations
And I had to choose an alternative for the European Village decors., which of course turned out to be the town decors. since the asian decors didn't have enough buildings/places on hex.
Just realized while typing this there are no European Village decors.
As it doesn't look "natural" since there are more bigger buildings on the outside rather than the inside. European Village in the inside and Town on the outside does not work for me, while the Town in the inside WOULD look good with the European Village on the outside. (But there aren't any Euro. Village decors.)

Re: Q: Decorations
There's only 4 variations of Town? No way, there are 8! (6 for around the hex, 2 extra)

Re: Q: Decorations
The point of the decorations isn’t to surround it, its to support it. When you completely surround a hex with buildings, it just looks like a slightly bigger hex. You need to integrate trees decorations, farm hexes, and when you use the town decorations, mish mash them. For example, you could, instead of only placing town decos around town hexes, you could place some of the Asian village decos on some farms around the town, and perhaps place one in the town hex. The village hexes are different. They aren’t supposed to be sprawling, so just a few sides will suffice. Add some farms or ricefields, hills, and of course usually some trees, it tends to look more natural.

Re: Q: Decorations
Natural is the word that is the best for the maps I make!
Yeah I get it that its only for the natural feel of the map, but it just missing!
Its like it can't be complete without those in the first post.
