Question: Military Training Bonus Buildings Outside Provincial Capital? Useless?

Post by Seamus »

This guide says:
Military unit creation bonus structures that find themselves outside a provincial capital are going to be severely depreciated as to their usefulness. Such structures would be good candidates for disassembly, in order to free up slots. It also goes without saying you probably want to avoid building such structures outside the provincial capital.
Is this true? Do military buildings which confer training bonuses which are NOT in the provincial capital (generally seems to be "XP" but maybe other variables too? For example, the Castrum Equitatum says something general about 'benefit' to light cavalry) STOP conferring any such training bonuses once the province is formed?

In skimming/searching I was unable to find any reference to this in the manual . . .

Obviously, there are other factors which may continue to confer benefit to having "military buildings which confer training bonuses which are NOT in the provincial capital" even after the province is formed, but I'm specifically curious about the "training bonuses."

A couple of comments:

1) This guide is actually a plagerism of my Steam Guide. Almost word per word. Fascinating.

2) I say almost, because I had updated that paragraph after the 1.04 patch. The current and correct para in my Guide reads as follows:

“A general note on Military structures (updated for 1.04!): Many offer an XP bonus or manpower or equipment discount to units created in the region. And it's important to keep in mind that once regions are grouped into a province, all military production takes place in the provincial capital (the exception would be a province with a port-less capital, in which case a random coastal Harbour region is selected).

Now, as of 1.04, the XP bonus and cost discounts of Military Structures in non-capital regions will count, albeit somewhat inefficiently. 50% of their XP bonuses will count towards units built in the capital, up to 25 XP and 2 extra levels. Discounts are given to the capital at 50% as well. So now it does kinda make sense to build Barracks outside of a provincial capital ...

Also, take note of the new Military Expertise ratio that was introduced in 1.04, which gives an additional incentive for building Military structures. You'll probably want to keep the ratio at 1 or above (which basically will involve putting a Tier I Military structure in every region, on average).”
