Hi All
Please can someone clarify whether Ancient Briton Lch have missile capability (ie 2" range) as they are allowed to skirmish and evade if one rank deep (although not classed as skirmishers) but the lists have them down only as Light Spear armed.
thanks
Martyn

IF the army list has them down as Light Spear and no Javelin (which is the case) , then they can't shoot. Light spear is an impact capability, not a shooting capability.
Yes, this does make Ancient British Chariots pretty rubbish. Stick a BG of slingers or javelinmen in front of them to compensate.
The light horse is listed as Javelin, Light Spear and can shoot, Javelin being a shooting capability.

I have a good friend building Ancient British and feels the same way. I haven't actually used LCH with lt spear but it seems to be they compare with say protected superior cav with lt spear and could function the same way: threaten flanks, go after enemy skirmishers, evade, pin etc. That's my take at any rate.lawrenceg wrote:IF the army list has them down as Light Spear and no Javelin (which is the case) , then they can't shoot. That is pretty much it, they are roughly the same as cavalry superior protected light spear, but with the important differences of 2 dice per base in melee AND ignoring armour effects (so they are only - POA vs armoured sword instead of --). They do have their uses, as you suggest, but they are not like heavy chariots or superior armoured sword cavalry that can just march up and fight almost anything on even or better terms. Once you get into melee you are nearly always fighting at a - so you need to really make use of all those extra dice.daleivan wrote:I have a good friend building Ancient British and feels the same way.
