Operation Torch

Post by kokono »

Gentlemen, I can say that Algeria is not in the game when capital is created as an independent state after the fall of France.

If you can not conquer Algeria after the allies would declare war, you can not make Operation Torch.

In my opinion it is an aspect that must be resolved with an upcoming patch

What do you think?

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand your objection to the way Algeria is handled by the game. Could you please explain further? :?

Yes, I can land troops in Algeria, but after conquering its capital, the country does not surrender. Why?

Operation Torch was my failure to get my troops without supplies.

I think you have to remember that Algeria and the other North African countries weren't sovereign nations at the time. Algeria didn't gain full independence from France until well after WWII. So they shouldn't really be able to just up and surrender to any conquering power. It's similar to the way Egypt doesn't surrender if the Axis captures Cairo and Port Said. In reality, the American troops had to march from their landing sights to Tunisia on foot through potentially hostile territory, and we should have to do the same in the game.

In case you haven't checked out the historical thread there are a couple of references to Torch that you may be interested in.

Operation Torch from a US Perspective

An interesting fact, I was watching the BBC World at War Series (3rd disc), just last night in fact, and the episode about the Axis tough old gut (i.e., Soft Underbelly) and in a clip about Torch, I recognized the US Sargent pictured on the cover of the second article.
