error downloading TT Mod

Post by TheGrayMouser »

HI, using the non steam version, latest patch and keep getting this error when attempting to use the ingame function to d/l and install the single player TT mod. It crashes around 30-50% completion...
This, in part, is from an error log I found:

Hmm, it might be something to do with your setup. We had this problem initially ourselves (because of the huge size of the mod) until the .EXE was changed to allow it to download correctly. But maybe there is still a problem on some setups.

I will ask Pip.

Could you possibly post the whole error log. (The vanilla error.log file will have been overwritten if you have played the game since, so if you can't find the correct date-stamped version, could you be kind enough to try the download again, and post the error log if it crashes)

It looks like it is running out of memory during the download - are you (a) running the latest version of the game, (b) running out of physical memory on your machine?

Cheers

Hi, yes latest version. I wouldn’t know about b, once the fog2 crashed it brought me back to the desktop, every running smooth. The beta install wouldn’t effect this, would it?

Use the Task Manager to investigate the amount of memory you are using and have left before you begin the download.

Not sure if this will help but brought up the task mgr while trying to d/l again. Doesnt look like much additional memory was being used at the time of the crash...

Hmmm - I am not sure what could be going on. Your version is definitely acting as if it is the older version pre-the fix we implemented to solve the very issue you are having.

I do wonder if it could be a fragmentation issue, though I would not expect it to be. Can you try running the game immediately after a restart and see if it helps.

Reducing the memory used on downloads is on the tasklist, but it is non-trivial, as nothing was really designed for this size of mod.

I am having the same issue trying to install the TT mods on my 32-bit Win 7 desktop. I used the same game install file on my Win 8 laptop, and I downloaded the mod with no difficulty. In terms of performance, the laptop is nothing special.

Thanks for taking a look. My only concern is, now that I think of it, is when I used the ingame update to patch to the latest version 1.17, it did crash a few times as well (third time was the charm). I didnt note the error code as I just assumed it was a connection to the server being overloaded by players eagerlly getting the latest pacth.. The patch is 380mb so I hope to figure this out as I might start having issues with game updates too. I might try to reinstall the game... Is the 1.17 patch (the downloaded one) cumulative?
I also wonder if its the new windows patches trying to mitigate the Intel crisis, that are the culprit...
