Mistakes, Obligations, & Ethics in MP

Post by eddieballgame »

In a recent MP encounter I, mistakenly/foolishly, did not survey the map before I chose my units. Once the battle began I noticed a 'deep creek' that flowed across the entire center of the terrain. My initial thought, this will be interesting, to say the least. It became even more interesting when I noticed my 5 chariot groups, which included my generals, could not cross said creek.
As a smart general, I should have "stayed put"; as my opponent did not make the same blunder I did.
But no, I crossed that damn creek with what I could & got slaughtered...deservedly so. :)
My question is...what is the consensus per ethics in not engaging & maintaining a position where all one's units can be used cohesively? I have read where it is frowned upon by those that do so, but to not do so in this particular case was suicide.
My opponent played very well & could have won regardless. I just wished I hadn't embarrased myself completely. :)
Thanks for any thoughts.

I'd agree.
I mean, granted, having an opponent camp out in a corner because he has nothing but LF and missile-troops is admittedly a pain.
On the other hand, I can't really fault anybody for playing to their strengths.

Besides, with the possible exception of tournaments, most MP battles aren't hyper-competitive to start with.
I've got two words for ya: Math is hard.

I am playing & having fun doing so. I shall choose the right plan next time...maybe. :)
