yup. i'm thinking the same. i've dropped out a small BG of XB and gone for the TC instead. with a big shooty army you need the CT control.DaiSho wrote:OldenTired wrote:so i've an army i pushed up to 14 BG.
trouble is, it's mostly average troops, so it will need decent command and control.
my question is whether to lose one small BG of 6xXB undrilled and pick up a TC, or to keep the XB and use it for the purpose god intended. flank support.
I've just decided to take away my FC and reduce a BG from 6 LH to 4 LH to buy an extra TC. I think the command and control the extra TC will give me will be better than the loss of the FC. But this is after a lot of games with the army, and I've not tried it out yet.

Generals are best committed to two kinds of fights: those you must not lose and those you are likely to win. Mostly the latter, because you can win them quicker and with less risk of the general getting killed. Many times I have been undone by losing a general to a 1/12 death check after losing a combat.ethan wrote:My gut feel is that as armies get bigger you can get away with few generals actually. Basically armies with lots of BGs tend not to have any worth putting a general in, they will win on numbers. Armies with juicy expensive hard hitting, especially hard hitting melee troops, need generals you can fight with IMO.
In short, it's better to reinforce success.

Thats an interesting selection and strategy. I have always played where my army commander is at least a FC, but I can see the merit in selecting 4 TCs. My only concern would be the attrition rate if they are rolling almost every combat for death. Still it might be worth a try.grahambriggs wrote:I've been taking four TCs and fighting with all of them. I find that boosting the capabilities of the whole fighting line makes a real difference.
