Mods and 3.4.2

Post by Erik2 »

Editing the Cargo field to increase number of air units in a carrier still screws up the editor.
All units, terrain etc are gone.

Once upon a time, it still worked year(s) ago. The lack of scrolling inside the cargo menu convinced me to keep the maximum to 3 aircrafts. Carrying around or servicing so many aircrafts at same time is tactically disadvantageous anyway. You can still increase the air-production to upkeep more planes by carriers. Worked for me.

Understand, but for authenticity some change is needed. If air unit strengths are to remain fixed (at 10) then larger carriers need to be able to carry more
units. Using the 1 per CVE, 2 per CVL, and 3 per CV fits the Ranger, Ark Royal, Soryu and Hyryu. But not the Akagi, Kaga, Lexington and Saratoga, plus all
the Yorktown class who would carry 4. The Essex class would carry 5, and the Midway 6.
Also naval aircraft should have both the General Purpose (GP) or Armor Piercing (AP) bomb options. GP was used against land targets and could be used against
small ships while AP was needed for all large ships. This was a critical factor in the Battle of Midway when US dive bombers caught the Akagi and Kaga rearming
their bombers from GP to AP bombs.
Some other interesting facts:
- Virtually all Ports had anti-sub nets to screen their deep water channel entrance. At Pearl Harbor the IJN was not only able to use mini subs to cross over the net while submerged, but 40 Kates were able to drop torpedoes in shallow water by using special wooden breakaway fins to limit their dive depth. In addition, other Kates carried a 1500 pound, 14.2 inch naval gun AP shell fitted with special fins to drop on the BBs. A total of 145 Kates were used in the attack.
