game crashes most likely due to my pc - help needed!

Post by Ed3 »

Hi all!
I need some advice

I am at the Leyte scenario, US campaign, and the game crashes at turn 3 during the AI turn. the following message appears "fatal error in gc" and "too many heap sections", then after some time another message states the game crashed. This error happened a couple of other times at previous stages of the campaign but after a reload it didn't occur again. Now it does it systematically.
I attached the error folder.

My other important question is: do I have too low performance on my laptop to play this game? AI turns sometimes are very slow and most of the times laggy (the AI wheel doesn't turn smoothly), game crashes often (especially after a couple of hours I've been playing). I am playing with low graphic details.
These are my pc specs:
Windows 10 Home 32-bit
CPU: Intel Core i5 2430M @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 4,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
GRAPHICS: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M (Toshiba)

To wrap up, I had Windows 8 last year and the game had similar problems but the patches definitely improved my experience. Overall, it is a fabulous game, I would definitely buy the expansions soon if I manage to play it smoothly!

Thanks in advance

Ed

Your main problem is running on a Windows 32bit version.
In the game Options > Performance menu setthe Render Quality to Lowest, Effects Quality to Low, Lighting Quality to Low.

You can also try to reduce the number of applications running in the background so that you can have more resources available for the game. You could try one of those programs like Game Booster for doing that.

Thank you Paulus, I'll try to do that. I think in the future it would also be better for me to change to windows 64 bit...

I reduced the graphic settings and installed one of those programmes but it crashes at the same time. It is quite strange because I finished the Jap campaign on highest difficulty and it didn't get stuck, maybe there are more units in this scenario?

there was an update patch that came out recently that lowers the AI's use of your CPU a bit.

I bet installing that might help out with your crashes.

Heap errors usually mean you are running out of allocated memory though.

are you sure your laptop has enough ram to run the game properly? Windows 10 is a memory hog, and 4 gigs is actually very little ram for a modern computer; could be you have a lot less ram free than you think.

Agree. It seems these issues are more frequent with 32bit system.

Thank you guys for your replies.

Unfortunately yes, I dont have enough RAM. I have 1.3GB of hardware reserved RAM that I don't know how to unlock. The maximum available TAM I can manage is 1.9GB so I suppose that is the cause of the crash. Apart from changing computer, I dont really have any feasible solutions..

RAM is quiet cheap nowadays, so you could theoretically upgrade it without having to change the computer.
The issue is with a 32bit Windows system, you want be able to use the extra memory.
So firstly you need to upgrade to a 64bit Windows system.
