another interception charge question

Post by bahdahbum »

As I have no picture of the situation I'll try to be as clear as possible .

one lettre = one base B = bowmen S = scutarii L = light horse C = cataphracts S and L are of the same side and it is their turn . S is in plantation but the right most base is partially outside the plantation ( in green ) , the top base being outise by a very narrow margin( in red ) and they are facing the ennemy bowmen . The light horses are facing the ennemy cataphracts which treathens the scutarii flank and are at 3 MU from the scutarii

The scutarii declares a charge against the bowmen . The other player then states that the cataphracts will intercept the charging unit as they are in range and see the charging unit . There was much discussion as in the path of the charging unit there is a light horse unit . One interpretation was : the cataphracts may charge and we will see if the light horses stand or not , but then what about the plantation ? . or the other interpretation was the cataphracts may not intercept as there is an ennemy unit between them and their target , the charging scutarii!

What sould we have done ? I reread teh rules but did not find a clear answer but I might have missed something .

Interesting.

I would have never considered this interpretation as to me it is obvious that an interception charge cannot go through an enemy BG.

Having read the section on interception charges it does not specifically prohibit this but the bit on P63 where it states what the interception charge must do says that it must cross the path of the charge (which it clearly doesn't as the LH are in the way) or contact the chargers in the flank (which again I can't see how it would do).

Interception charges can only go directly forwards and cannot go through anything is the simple way to look at it.

With more and more people playing, you will have many interpretations . Our problem at the time is that they are not enough players around brussels to play regularly, so we always have to relearn part of the rules , hence the interpretations ... But it will change .

See viewtopic.php?t=7211

Because the Lh are facing the cataphacts the cataphacts can't contact anyone anyway.
