A few queries if I may regarding elephants...

Howdy,

A few questions if I may…

1.) Do elephants count as "shock mounted" (it would appear not)?


2.) Do light spear (foot) and Impact foot both get a + POA against elephants (if they are not shock) which would generally cancel out the elephant POA?


2.) I realize heavy and scythed chariots are disordered within one MU of elephants…but it would also appear that they receive a + POA against elephants, is this the case?

Elephants are not shock.

Yes the light sp works against elephants

Chariots don't work against elephants

Yessir, LF with javelin and lt.spear may be the anti-elephant troop in the game. Of course, you have to get them into position to do so

Crossbows are quite useful against nellies as well IIRC.

Javelin LF are pretty good if they are lobbing javelins. I wouldn't expect them to win a melee against elephants due to only getting half dice.

I also noted that the shooting POA states "any except bow or sling".

So bow* get a POA of +1, but bow do not? Heck, I must admit excluding bow and sling at all has me a bit confused.

I just mentioned the chariots because it seemed odd to me they were excluded in the POA "limitations" and as I run LAPs with scythed chariots on occasion. Honestly I am looking for a target for these "cruise missiles of the ancient world". I would not expect my scythed chariots to actually 'win' mind you...but then again I never really expect them to win and they might just do enough with four on four dice at even POA on impact to make elephants a valid target of desparation.

Played Indians vs Alex Macedonians a few days ago. The natural enemy of the elephant is the pike, it get a net +1 POA in both melee and impact. One pike unit in our game destroyed 3 elephant battle groups, plus a unit of clubmen for good measure.
