Line of Sight statistics

Post by uran21 »

At first I was disturbed by not finding any statistics on unit spotting than on the other hand spotting is dynamic and who wants to manually calculate how far it can see, right?

But, lets look at the issue from another perspective. There is an info on movement in unit statistics. Every unit has certain movement points, it has certain movement type (chassis) and different terrain types require different amount of movement points for different movement types (chassis). So movement is even more complex than spotting is. Why there is no problem with movement? Because we do not do anything manually. Unit is selected and all possible hexes where it can go in a turn are highlighted. Even those occupied by other friendly unit.

So why not to provide contextual menu similar like for supply that will highlight unit spotting. Even providing several options for it.

Spotting of all friendly units.
Spotting of all visible enemy units.
Spotting of an individual unit.

Spotting of a unit can play a role in maneuvering so it is an important stat. Spotting of individual unit, when selected in this mode, can even be updated depending on where mouse is pointing simulating how far would it see from different hex.
