hi everyone,
i am new to slitherine and these forums, actually, im new to this type of wargaming.
my name is chris and i am 23 yrs old. ive been playing real time strategy games since i was 10. (command and conquer, Age of empires, starcraft etc...)
when i was 18-19, i went competitive in starcraft 2 and played/practiced on a B team with dreams of going PRO. unfortunately, i suffered from severe wrist issues that made this impossible.
now i spend my time playing games like company of heroes and Ruse but i cannot play too much or be competitive because of my wrists.
Anyways,
im in desperate search for a great world war 2 strategy game for multiplayer. Something with a strong multiplayer community. i was wondering if you guys could help me? that would be awesome.
ive been currently looking at Gary grisbys war in the East, unity of command, panzer corps and the hearts of iron series.... but i want something for great multiplayer. ( i saw there is a new close combat game as well?)
thank you so much for taking the time to read this

WITE and WITW are both great games, bu also hardcore, have them both but it depends on how you like to play,
Order of Battle Pacific is really really good, same type of game as panzer corps just more up to date, but is ww2...
Brother against Brother The Drawing of the Sword is great but is civ war not ww2 based... (but well worth the effort, but only if you like civ war, very well done) but not in your list of likes maybe...
Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm is great but is also modern war based... so same reply as above ^^
but there's plenty of others to choose from, read the forums, see the posts and video and twitch feeds and see who else posts on recommendations etc
either way welcome to the board and enjoy which ever game you choose...

Unfortunately I too have a similar issue, so I avoid playing RTS games and prefer turn based ones.creesto1 wrote: but i cannot play too much or be competitive because of my wrists.
Besides the ones zak already mention, you also have Panzer Corps and Battle Academy games. Both have large multiplayer communities.
Re: wargamer in need of help
awesome thank you!
i heard WITE AND WITW are very comlicated. how is the multiplayer scene? can i start a game with a friend and finish within 1-2 hours? or is this impossible given the large scale...

yeah i was looking at Battle academy 2, still unsure. i really want to find a game where the multiplayer is live and can be finished within 1-2 hours.
Re: wargamer in need of help
With WitE and WitW, I'd say it's impossible due to the reason you already know. With the other games, like Battle Academy, it's possible. If you are going to play with a friend than PBEM++ it's almost like multiplayer.
Otherwise basically only Close Combat games permit multiplayer.
The speed of playing PBEM++ will always depend more on how fast you and your opponent decide to play.

yeah that makes sense, thank you. yeah closecombat looks like a winner for me.. its somewhat like company of heroes but slower pace. i really wish bloody first was releasing soon.
Re: wargamer in need of help
while it is complicated, it now has enough video's guides, after action reports and manuals to to teach the basics, a lot easier now than when it first came out, so does cater for beginner, advanced and groghead all in one, which i never thought i'd say either...creesto1 wrote:awesome thank you!

games on a epic scale, but manageable once you give it some time, or just do the smaller battles before you do the bigger stuff, i've owned WITE for 5 years, and WITW for a few weeks now.
Re: wargamer in need of help
yeah these two games really intrigue me because i noticed they follow the same military nato symbols from WW2. im a big ww2 history guy and really was fascinated with Filed Marshal Von manstein. His books contain the exact symbols as the war in the east game.zakblood_slith wrote:while it is complicated, it now has enough video's guides, after action reports and manuals to to teach the basics, a lot easier now than when it first came out, so does cater for beginner, advanced and groghead all in one, which i never thought i'd say either...creesto1 wrote:awesome thank you!

Altho, the game isnt really eye candy, im wondering if the online gameplay is so good it becomes immersive?
sorry for so many questions, and thank you!
Re: wargamer in need of help
just look at some of the AAR and then watch the video and twitch stuff and make your own mind up, i'm not selling it to you as i'm only a member like yourself, but like i said it all depends on what time you have and how much you want to not only spend but give a game as well...
