Hi folks, can somebody confirm that all the Japanese auxiliary units in the Pearl Harbour scenario can be lost without any consequence (apart from losing > 1 aircraft objective)? Also if I buy nothing at the start of this scenario the money will still be available at the start of the next (Luzon) scenario? + I assume the AI does not have core units?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Auxiliary Units
Hi Chris,
Yes, resources carry over from one scenario to the next. If you win a scenario early, you still get the extra resources for the turns you 'didn't use'. Half of the resources you spend reinforcing non-core units will be refunded at the end of a scenario.
The AI doesn't have core units as such, but in some particular scenarios, there are particular individual units which, if killed, will reduce enemy strength in later scenarios. The US BBs at Pearl Harbour are one such example. In these cases, killing these particular units will be a secondary objective. The secondary objective description (click on the ?) will explain that enemy strength will be reduced going forward if the target is killed.
I'm guessing by your question that you are pondering the idea of spending no money at Pearl to save it for later scenarios, on the basis that the outcome at Pearl will have no impact on the later game. It might work out, but bear in mind the objective descriptions for PH: (I've put some in bold)
// OBJECTIVES
objective_2_0 = Attack Oahu island for 15 turns
objective_2_0_award = #
objective2_2_0 = Destroy 8 enemy aircraft
objective2_2_0_award = A new Air Commander with achieve the status of ace in our core forces.
objective2_2_1 = Destroy 3 Oil Depots
objective2_2_1_award = The Americans will have less naval strength available for their operations in the coming months.
objective2_2_2 = Destroy 3 Battleships
objective2_2_2_award = The enemy battlefleet strength will be greatly reduced in any following naval engagements.
objective2_2_3 = Do not lose any air units
objective2_2_3_award = Japanese carrier pilot quality for auxiliary units will not suffer from the attrition of war.
objective2_2_4 = Do not let any Recon aircraft escape
objective2_2_4_award = If the Americans manage to find our fleet they will surely launch a counter-attack against it.
So, there are quite a few incentives to not sit back and watch this scenario pass.

Re: Auxiliary Units
Thanks for the confirmation. I started the scenario before your answer and decided to buy a zero and a scout plane just in case money wasn't carried forward if not spent.
I immediately removed the scout plane and used the zero in the first easy attack to gain some xp (even thought xp may not matter for aircraft?) Then I removed the core zero.
I gained all the secondary objectives apart from destroying 8 planes and losing > 1 aircraft - but again if xp doesn't matter for aircraft not a big deal.
Cheers,
Chris
