Ayyubid Egyptian

Post by prinny »

Hi there,

This is my first dip into the ancient pool :?

I wanted a fun army to play with lots of Cav and some infantry to go along with the ride

I just want to know if I am on the right track for building my first army :D

AYYUBID EGYPTIAN
1 x FC
3 x TC

Mamluks
3 BG's of 6 bases

Armoured lances
2 BG's of 4 bases of Armoured, Superior, Drilled, Cav

Turcoman Cav
2 BG's of 6 Unprotected, Average , Undrilled, LH

Bedouin Cav
1 BG of 6 Protected, Average, Undrilled, Cav

Foot Archers
2 BG's of 6 Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, LF

Javelinmen
1 BG of 8 Protected, Average, Undrilled, MF

Ahdath Militia
1 BG of 6 Protected, Poor, Undrilled, HF
3 Unprotected, Poor, Undrilled, LF

Plus a camp,

If i have worked it out right it should come to 785 points :)

So am I on the right track, or do I need to go back to the drawing board?

You'll want your Mamlukes in BGs of 4 - makes swapping between 1 and 2 ranks more efficient.

I'd also have the Turcomans in BGs of 4 and if the Bedouin can be LH I'd prrobably make them that instead of Cv as they're actually a bit weak as Lancer Cv.

Not sure what use the single BG of MF is as they are not the greatest MF and the Ahdhath are just a target for the enemy in this list IMO. I'd probably go with all LF infantry in this mob.

In fact I'd actually recommend you have a look at the Seljuq as an alternative as the infantry options are a bit better including a BG of Dailami - not to mention the option of Steppe terrain :D

I have wondered if it would be worthwhile to have a BG of 6 led by a general, not to skirmish but to have a lot of mobility - especially with Drilled cavalry the ability to move sideways when needed.

6 does have more staying power, and more reroll potential by having the general in the front rank, but is not as nimble as 4 and eats up more points. Thus 6 is OK for shock mounted, not so good for missile troops.
