Skirmishers joining melee

Hi,

is it right that light infantry can join a melee only via overlap against any enemy other than light troops?

And does this apply also against artillery as I would thought even skirmishers should kill some lonely artillery crew?

Light foot can move to an overlap as long as the enemy are frontally engaged. Light foot cannot otherwise get into close combat with any unbroken non light troops in the open, even artillery
