Re: In-game Unit descriptions
i think that weapon description (a popup on the weapon name) is the only things needed: for example the effectiveness vs armored targed or vs units with large numbers etc etc...
Re: In-game Unit descriptions
I would love to see a unit statistics popup/window/dialog/whatever that shows all of the stats of a unit (there are some things available in the purchase screen not visible in the unit panel in mission like sight, etc). This also is hugely important for enemy units. I don't know of a way to see the stats of the enemy units currently besides hover over which doesn't let me click on them to get their tooltips, etc or show me everything.
This popup/window could also be a place for the flavor text that rezaf describes which would add a lot to the game.

Interesting, but I don't really understand the question here. Are you saying you want a text pop up to say 'this is a strong anti-tank weapon?' Or something to this effect? Is that not what the sum of the numbers already tell you on weapon stats? Higher power and higher penetration will mean higher success against units with higher armor, while higher rate of fire is generally the stat to look out for when engaging units with higher formation size. The moment we turn that into text... I just think text will be a lot easier to misinterpret than pure number comparisons.
That said, expanding information on how effective your weapons are predicted to be and also how effective they actually performed after an engagement would be great areas to improve upon, especially for multi-weapon units.

While the info screen on the right panel works fine for comparing simple combat stats, I still miss to see stats of movement and spotting. You especially don’t want placing your recon units too close to enemies as the high number of long-range weapons can quickly decimate unfortunate placements. Knowing the base melee/ranged accuracy isn't that unimportant either.
The right-click unit details screen of PzC with all the existing info and statistics was perfect to quickly scan unit info, but given how huge the UI elements got in this game, I bet there is also still room for all unit stats like in the purchase screen, for example next to the experience bar.
