Firstly I'd like to say thanks and congratulations to Slitherine for delivering the first 40k game in years that is actually not an abomination of cheap mobile OS ripoffitude. I'm having a blast so far.
Firstly I will touch upon the things you've done really well:
Unit variety. Yesss! This has always been an issue for me, there is such variety in 40k and you've finally nailed it with having nearly everything I could want.
Depth. The combat variety seems pretty deep. Having multiple stats to rely on is refreshing, I was worried it would be a simply rock-papers-scissors affair.
Aesthetics. The first time I saw the blood-red river I was like, whoa. Awesome. The sprites are lovely to look at, and though they lack animation the firing effects and sounds are stellar.
Campaign variety. The ability to make basic choices is very welcome, and there seems to be a load of missions, with good objective variety and map variety.
Secondly, the things you need to improve
Documentation. Feeding back to the depth you offer, this is not clearly explained. At all. I'll detail below:
Weapon types. This relates to feedback, but simple statements on what weapon types work well against what would be fantastic. As a 40k nut I understand what should work, but I feel this isn't translating well into the game. I take out Executioners against heavily armoured orks to melt them, but seemingly this doesn't give me any noticeable boost to killing efficacy
Armour types Armour is simply a level scaled feature, going towards 100 etc. Are there armour types (infantry, heavy, power armour etc?) that have different resistances to the above weapon types? Or is it just a simple strength versus armour, factoring in AP & specific abilities?
Combat tutorials Your tutorial explains the basic, but ultimately the actual detail is lacking. Your game blurb mentions 20+ stats and terrain and morale but this isn't even mentioned in the tutorial. It's intuitive enough to know 'fortification' is going to make my infantry more resilient but the basics should be explained or available
Unit selectionWell, it's confusing. I know all the Lleman Russ variants, and what they should be good and bad at, yet this isn't really brought across when you compare their stats. I think, from memory this, Hellhounds are a great example.
Hellhounds have more range & attack than the Banewolf. Why would I ever use a banewolf? From your stats it seems redundant.
UpdatesI can see from other threads you've mentioned you have plans for the future, but this is imperative. As the game model is relatively simple you will need to provide us with new content. Even if its DLC at a price, more missions, more units & maybe a development of existing game mechanics would really help to keep my interest. As it stands I feel very happy with my purchase, but the content needs updating
MPPretty obvious, but MP & Custom game setups would be great. I know we have an edito but a scenario editor so we can make our missions easily would rock.
I'll update as I go along, but for now I'm loving it.
Also will you ever add new races/wars? I know you mention the Tau & Eldar in the intro vid
