French/Genoese crossbowmen -- Crecy -- pavises

Post by OrkConvert »

Did the crossbowmen at Crecy have pavises that could just be stuck in the ground -- or did they have pavise "holders" who held them in place as the crossbow guy loaded up?

An aside: it's incredible the "stuff" you have to figure out to play a wargame!!!?!?!?!

Neither, they had had to leave their pavises behind. (Don't recall why). It is one of the things blamed for their poor performance in the battle.

Thanks! But if they had them with them -- would they have had holders or had to carry them themselves?

Themselves. The ones with separate pavisiers are the ones like the Itialian Militia battle groups in the Condotta list, which are treated as 1/2 DSp, 1/2 XBow.
