Pandora Updater Not Running on Windows 8.1

Hello and thank you for your help on my XP thread.

Well, Windows 8.1 has been a nightmare, but I'm a patient person. Attached are the logs and MSINFO.

Hitting "Play Pandora" results in an immediate error box that says: "Error Pandora Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please contact support with game logs and save games."

Running as admin has same effect.
Windows Firewall is off.
Avast, both on and off, same box.
Running from the Binaries, same effect

I'm sure it's something rather simple. Thank you in advance.

Have you installed newest graphics drivers?

According to the AMD installer, I did. Windows 8.1 appears really dicey with AMD - can't get CCC to come up though it is installed. Will check AMD again to make sure I got the right package.

Will do it now; will EDIT results.


EDIT: I do have the latest, but it appears to be an older driver for the HD4800 - was created 1/20/2013. The Beta driver is 4/28/2013, so I am downloading that.

Vid driver as up to date as it can get for the HD4870 series. Using the Beta version, even. Same error.

You should try running a newer version of Pandora. Purchase downloads should have installers for 1.1.2.

I requested a new download link and they gave me the same 1.00 version. Same result. Updater will not run.

Is there any other way to get a patch from 1.00 to 1.21? A separate, manual file?

Or other option?

I did, thank you - had received it from Slitherine about 15 minutes ago.

Now I don't know what to do. Got this error:

Good grief. I see what it says. But I already have the latest drivers. Is the HD4870 hopeless then with Windows 8 for this game? Worked great a week ago

I too have an ATI 4890. So I have tested the game in my Windows 8.1 partition and I could confirm your issue.

It worked! ITWORKEDITWORKEDITWORKED! Wahoo! (shakes butt, happy dance). Now, if I only hadn't had just purchased a new $234 graphics card not ten minutes before I saw that email and this post.... But, now I know what to do when the card comes and requires new drivers. Tricky thing, that was.

Runs off screaming to go play Pandora 1.3.2
