Re: War of the World - v1.1 releases March 21
1.1 is online https://www.mediafire.com/?qte6w671zaan7cm
Changes from 1.0:
- Rotterdam now a town
- Vichy now has armies
- More Soviet units will appear shortly after you invade the USSR
- AI will now attempt Sealion occasionally
- A "Sealion attack force" will have a chance of appearing if France falls before Oct 1940
- More SNLF units for Japan
- More aggressive Japanese AI
- All units in the Chinese theater are very well entrenched - no easy pickings any more
- In Dec 41, Thailand will join the Axis under the Japanese flag
- USSR cannot be invaded by Germany until France has fallen (Molotov Ribbentrop Pact)
- More visible borders, with definite boundaries (uses naturesheva's border graphics instead of the "A"s in 1.0)
- Strategic Map uses McGuba's squares rather than unit icons to prevent crowding (though it is still very crowded)
- New flag setup, the same as in Kaiserschlacht
- Prestige per turn no longer visible, but is determined by certain country regions of the map.
- Less prestige for both sides
- Fortress Chelyabinsk is now very formidable
- Japanese AI won't attack the USSR
Enjoy!

Re: War of the World v1.1
And for all you achievement hunters:
A Global Conquest: Win the scenario in less than 80 turns
A Global Storm: Win the scenario in less than 60 turns
Bombs away: Drop the Atomic bomb on Japan
Alliance of Tanks: Build 5 Japanese Tanks
Gimme your money: Use a U-Boat to destroy some Allied Prestige
Where'd the Brits go?: Capture Cairo before the end of 1940
Returning the missiles: Use a V bomb against a Russian Unit
But the gold has gone: Capture every flag in America
Reintroduction of Slavery: Capture every flag in Africa
I want the jewels: Capture every flag in Asia (Ural mountains-Istanbul-Suez Canal is the Western boudary)
A Land Empire: Capture every flag in Europe, except for Switzerland (not Iceland)
Japan is invincible to even nature!: Shoot down the B-29 carrying the Atomic Bomb, before it reaches Japan

Thanks a lot for making this available, BNC. Download and install ran smoothly for me.

I'm the only one to do it in SP (though the engine works just fine in MP), and the only to have released so far. Naturesheva stole my idea and is working on a bigger MP map.Richard1 wrote:Thanks a lot for making this available, BNC. Download and install ran smoothly for me.

Here to ask the same question as the above poster, how do I get this mod to work, more specifically where do I launch it from panzer corps?

Re: War of the World v1.1
Hello.
Some basic ideas what to improve:
Map - generaly it contains a lot of monotonous space. It would improve gameplay a lot, if the map is more diverse - use of woods, hills, major rivers, that all would improve the feeling, you get from the map.
Start units - units with strength of 1 you face on the begining of the game are no chalenge. You ride througn Europe like a knife through butter. I would like to see at least some chalenge.

I was looking at version 1.1 and I quite like how you've developed the 'global' concept. In other words, I think this mod has a lot to offer, it's just I'm having a hard time getting past Sicily (which is standing out as a real immersion killer).
I realize there isn't a lot of room in the Med, but even a Malta size Sicily would be a great improvement IMO. Just my two cents.

Re: War of the World v1.1
The challenge that rivers create is how much space they take up. London to Paris is 5-6 hexes, and even a river as big a problem as the Rhine isn't a nuisance for 20% of that distance. 28-day-long turns also pose the problem there, as only very few rivers in Europe (Volga, Rhine, Dniepr) can be represented as all others can be crossed in a matter of days (Guderian was over the Meuse in a few hours in 1940), and 2-months is too long for every river in Europe!MarkusParkus wrote:Hello.

I have also never heard of a very hilly region of such a large scale that it would earn 1 hex on the map (this is somewhat inflated, but there are very few of such anywhere - Europe is larely flat ground or tall mountains), so I can't just put huge numbers of hills everywhere, and the same for forests. I have been trying to create a reasonable degree of realism with this mod, and so many features of more detailed scenarios have had to be thrown.
The 1-strength units that the French have are only supposed to stay weak on Turn 1, except that the AI is too ignorant and doesn't reinforce them. I wanted to include the French Armoured Force, and the BEF in that, and so all units had to be greatly weakened. Would a single 10-str. Inf in Paris be better? Units in Poland are beaten up from the first 2 days of fighting Germany, and so make sense to be on 5 and 3 and other weak stuff. (Do remember the mod starts on the #rd of Sept., not the 1st).
You have a good point, in fact, the same one that I had that led to the removal of Malta before I released the mod. Sicily however is Italy's only airbase (I think, can't remember as I've been doing WWI), and so it would be quite difficult to remove. Only issue is that you have to go around it. Malta is too small (and a bit too insignificant) for the scale of the mod (50 fighters or something? - Unit scale is almost 1000 planes to the unit) to be represented, as is Crete.iceFlame wrote: One word: Sicily.

If I removed all small islands, however, the Pacific theatre would be non-existant. The ones there are only because of their strategic importance (or how long battles there lasted - Okinawa was 2 months). In the Med, there is less space, and so only Sicily and Corsica/Sardina were added, and they are the 2 largest! (Corsica and Sardinai had to be combined to be added!)
Your points will be taken into consideration when I start work on v1.2

Re: War of the World v1.1
I'm going to be setting up a multiplayer game of this on Thursday, so PM me if interested! (Include which side you prefer - I don't mind either way). I'm also hoping to do an AAR for it, as everyone would like to know what our moves are (also include as much as you like about your war plan so I can prepare the stormtroopers
)
