shooting and adding it up
In dementia land we had a unit of four foot with bow 3 bases in the first rank and 1 base in the 2nd rank rank now all was good until it came to adding the 2nd rank to shooting as all F O G rule books seem to have merged into our heads at the same time can someone give us the heads up as per bases included, in short and long range, grandad became quite ill wrestling with the rule book, as he new he had read somewhere shooting rounded up in a book, but this could have been we W R G 0.5 as he is BC born cheers Dino.

Re: shooting and adding it up
Shooting is not rounded up. You get 1 die per X bases. MF get 1 dice per base in front rank at 4 MU or less and 1 per 2 bases for any bases in the 2nd rank or any bases over 4 MU. So in your example in effective range (4 MU or less), you would get 3 dice. 1 each for the bases in 1st rank. You only have 1 base in the 2nd rank, not enough. At long range it is 1 dice per 2 bases. You have 4 bases so you get 2 dice.
Look at the definitions on page 142: "1 Dice per x Bases" - It says to round dice down.

Agreed, however, you do get to add up ALL dice shooting. So if there were two identical units, you could add to to 'half dice' together to give you an additional dice. Where it gets a little confusing is if one of those units is rated differently (poor or superior etc) in which case the 'merged dice' gets reduced to the poorest quality of those contributing dice.
In the above example at close range 3 superior and 4 average if 1 BG was Superior and the other Average.

Only three dice Dino. Shooting dice round down. Grandad may have been confusing it with impact and melee dice, which round down.
Why the authors couldn't have done all the same is beyond me!

Roundiing it up or all down would have made it easy for all of us', players as we are all getting a bit older (ish) I have to say there we're 3 of us reading the rules with increasing confusion .cheers all

I think I've found why Grandad was thinking you round up. Page 104 bottom right last point going on to p105 top left. To paraphrase, rear support shooting by stationary light foot against mounted in impact get one dice per two bases ROUNDED UP. So a BG of 9 Dailami with 3 supporting LF in the third rank, assuming all files are fighting against charging mounted at impact, will get two additional dice for support shooting at impact.
