I have been asked and couldn't explain the reasons for the rule here below:
A unit of Knight deployed just behind a unit of friendly Light Foot cannot declare a charge since this interpenetration is not allowed.
They need to test (CM) and can charge if they fail (!).
Charging throu LF seems instead a legitimate tactic for a unit of Elephants, for instance.
Any explanation?

Screening knights with LF then deliiberately charging through them is not a historical tactic as far as we can determine. OTOH knights did sometimes charge through friendly troops without orders (eg at Crecy). So the rules allow this to happen but don't allow you to "order" it deliberately. (Which would be cheese).

We are trying to keep the rules as free of exceptions as possible, so the same rule applies to elephants.

In the Maneuver Phase before you intend to charge you must move your LF back behind your charging BGs. This will give the enemy two shots at you before you can charge in your next Impact Phase. Gotta give the shooters a chance.

If you llok in intenentrations it say that no interpenetrations are allowed when charging. Last sentence page 47.

So you need to get your skirmishers out of the way really before the main clash of arms.
