Yet Another Min/Max Querry

Hi,

Min/Max for a single Div from another list for attachment I think I get.........except for Attachments.

Taking for example French 1814 Cav Corp. List allows:

Upto 2 Officers per Division, 3 in total.
Up to 2 Artillery in total.

So for my single Cav Division to attach to my 1814 Inf Corp, can I take 2 Officers and 2 Arty attachments? Taking all of the Corps Artillery attachments and 2/3rd of its officers seems somewhat....greedy.

Greedy perhaps, but perfectly legal!

You are paying 44 points for that (or an average drilled line infantry), so that does temper the greed somewhat. Think of it as an elite division.

ok, the more I know bout these lists the less it seems I understand .

1814 French Cav Corp. I am attaching a single Division to an Infantry Corp, so.....

Chasseurs/Light Cavalry.....Min 8 bases makes for 1 compulsory small unit in the single division.
Dragoons....................Min 18 bases makes for a compulsory large unit (or 2 small) in the attched division.

BUUUUUUT. French 1814 Cav Corp cannot have Light & Heavy Cav in same Division.

Solution we groupthought was that you cn then choose to be doing either Light OR Hevy Cv Division, and ignore the other minimum (so in the case of my example I will choose the Dragoon unit, ignoring the Light Cav).

Can someone confirm??????

Also, on Maximums. The Carabiniers/Cuirassier list Max is 4 bases, so rounding to 'not enough to field a unit' in the Division for attachment??????????

I agree you choose either heavy or light cab and ignore the other type.

+1 on the interpretation.

The attached division always has to abide by the restrictions put on it by its own list. In this case the Cav Corps only contains heavy or light divisions. Your attached division is heavy (the dragoons only) or light (the chasseurs only) with any artillery of course.

With the maxima for bases in an attached division, a good rule of thumb is that any troop type that is 0-4 bases won't be appearing in your army!

The rule says "halve the max and round up". Surely that means round up to a unit? If so then 0-4 would become 2 rounded up to 4? Which would mean you could use the Cuirassiers in the 1814 French as part of a heavy cav division.

I've always taken this to mean "round up to the nearest whole number" (ie base) so agree with Kendall. 0-4, or 0-6 Allies means none. 0-8 allows a single small unit.

"Nearest whole number" is correct. That is what the rules state in the paragraph about minima, and here is no reason to think that the formula would change without notice in the following paragraph. It could have been written more elegantly, to be sure.

Rules are clear:
minim divide by 3 round to nearest whole number.
Any minimum reduced 'to less than half a unit" should be ignored. It further specifies one base for art and 2 base for inf and Cav should be ignored and reduced to zero.
So that should likly be changed to half or less.

Then if you go to 0 minimum your "maxima is divided by 2 -- roundng up."
If you don't go to zero you keep your maxima

so 4-8 becomes 0-4.
6-12 becomes 4-12.
