From a game yesterday.
1) Can you have more than one general attached to a BG ?
My pike managed to rout a unit of Legionaries, that then auto-broke on losses. I would have moved over the general in my next bound, and the only BG within 7" of him had a general already attached to it.
2) Can a BG make contact with another BG in normal movement ?
Same pike block was involved, a legionary BG had to turn 90 degrees to hit me. We assumed he could not do this in the impact phase, so he did this in the movement phase and we just fought close combat, with no impact involved.
Cheers

Re: Two quick questions
Not sure about question number one, but I am sure that the answer to number two is no. The only way to make contact is in the impact phase, with two exceptions: 1) a BG can move to overlap only in the movement phase; 2) a BG already in overlap can slide into frontal contact during the movement phase if it has no close combat opponents. This is conducted in the same manner as if feeding more bases into a melee.Scrumpy wrote:From a game yesterday.2) Can a BG make contact with another BG in normal movement ?

Of course I speak under correction from the authors, as my copy of the rules has not yet arrived.

1. Yes. According to an answer by the authors you can even have a TC fighting in the front rank and an IC attached to the BG for CTs. They are afterall only nominal markers and perhaps need to meet up to plan dinner in the mess that night etc
2. Sort of - if they are already in contact, i.e. side edge-to-side edge or front corner-to-front corner, see page 37-38 in v6.00. If the BG in your example turned 90 then moved forwards into contact then that was not legal.
Of course you can turn up to and including 90 degrees in a charge so maybe they could have charged anyway - remember they just need to make contact, not line up.

You can wheel during a charge but not turn. There is a difference and if you have a BG of heavy or medium foot two bases wide it can't actually wheel 90 as it doesn't have enough move to do it.stevoid wrote:Of course you can turn up to and including 90 degrees in a charge so maybe they could have charged anyway - remember they just need to make contact, not line up.
There is I am fairly sure a rule allowing a BG that is in side edge to side edge contact to turn 90 (CMTs allowing) and 'walk' into contact with the enemy.

Fair call Hammy. It was a quick reply to a quick question
The important point is that there are rules to deal with how to progress a combat between BGs in contact without an impact phase and that there are limitations on what can be done during the impact phase and the movement phase. The good thing is that the rules are clear and straightforward for these bits, i.e. wheel (not turn) up to 90 degrees in a charge, and turn or slide when already in contact in the manoeuvre phase.
