When a enemy unit surrenders it would be realistic if the attacked actually captured the item eg field artillery, tank etc. Actually, depending on the theatre, one could say the same of infantry units....... Clearly, units surrender when their morale is very low, but the attacking units morale would be high, so perhaps a % of the attackers could be transferred to the captured unit perhaps allied to a dgree of randomness/'roll of the dice' that also potentially increases the captured units morale.
With regards to actual hardware - would this be possible in BA?
Certainly the capture of hardware was true of all theatres in WWII.

Re: Capturing hardware?
I did remember an oId thread begun by J2D about this here viewtopic.php?f=104&t=20697, about Capture Enemy.
Apparently it may be possible and Merr was working on another script as well, it appears its in his Trackhit mod.viewtopic.php?f=104&t=20847
Also another link about BF Capture Unit viewtopic.php?f=90&t=20656

Re: Capturing hardware?
I respectfully have a mixed view of this issue.
First, do we need this? The game is fun as it is. You don't get "capture" in chess nor any other boardgame I've ever played. Part of the challenge is to do your best with what you have.
Next, unless the chance to capture was very low, it could lead to a snowball effect where one side dominates quickly. In real warfare, how often did captured hardware get turned around?
Third, it seems unrealistic to be able to use the heavier weaponry. Where would the manpower & expertise come from (eg to load, range and fire 88s. or drive & fight Panther)? And surely captured units would be vulnerable to friendly fire? I don't see captured equipment being manned by surrendered soldiers (isn't there a convention against this?). So where do the sudden men & expertise come from? If it was "simple" equipment like light arms, then perhaps you split a squad as happens in the Crete campaign when they get machine guns, but is this really going to make that much difference?
Having said that, it would add a tactical dimension that would make things interesting.
Nice idea but with limited resources, I'd think there'd be more demand for Eastern Front than ability to capture units, I believe. But it's just my opinion...

Re: Capturing hardware?
Sorry - quick thought: might work well in a partisan campaign.
But still lower priority than Eastern Front, for me anyway. Am dying to see T-34s in action!

Such as? And how often?k9mike wrote:Germans use alot of capture stuff on the Eastern Front...
I'm not saying this is a bad idea, just lower priority than some other stuff, in my opinion.
Re: Capturing hardware?
Alot...and what do you think Auxillary Units were armed with?? Capture weapons were used more then people realize. I understand what your saying....and it wouldnt really matter if it was implemented or not...But, would kinda be neat to be able to with some dice odds...dont really see the big deal. It could be used similar to when you are assualting...make the odds low, and i dont think it would be used(cause could fail) as often as you think.
