DD Stuck in Port
I have a British DD that appears to be stuck in the Quebec port – the one called 'US LL Port'. 1st Destroyer Flotilla. Not sure how long it has been there, but at least a couple of turns, and I'm at turn 38 now – September 10, 1941.
I think I actually had another ship in the port before, and this vessel got 'spawned' on top of it, but I'm not sure about that.
Any ideas? Isn't the LL supposed to be granted to the UK by now?

Hi,
What version are you playing?
Was this game started with an earlier version and upgraded to the last version v2.10?
I just did a hotseat with the latest version. I placed a Canadian and then did it again with the 13th DD sqn from the UK. The LL destroyer spawns on turn 30.
It placed the LL destroyer adjacent to the LL port. I was able to move both on the next available allied turn.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
I can confirm this bug. I have a hotseat game going, and same thing happened.
Details: I had units in and around the Ottawa port when it was time for the DD to spawn (Americans loan destroyers to UK, etc., etc.), so instead of appearing on the map, the DD showed up in the force pool with a 6 turn wait, as if it had been just bought. Six turns later, when I placed the unit, it remained frozen in position. Each turn it's 'greyed-out' as if it had already been moved. When I used the upgrade function and clicked my mouse on the unit, it said 'already moved.' It's now been several turns, and the unit remains locked.
I am using the latest version of 2.1. Mac version.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
There are final versions and then there is the latest version
so when did you get the version? You can check the date by looking in the
Package and find the file v.txt in the MacOS folder. What is the date?
Ok so this happens only when there are no available empty hexes beside the port?
I did not have this issue because I only had the DD sitting in port.
Why would you pack all of your naval units into that
Small area ? I would not have considered placing other units adjacent to the port.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
Okay, I followed your instructions, opened the 'v.txt' and copied. Here's what was there: v2.10 12/06/01
I'm not sure if it only happens when there's no space to place the unit. This is just what happened in my hotseat game. Metolius has the same problem, but his sounds a bit different. He had a ship in the port when the DD spawned, but according to what he wrote the new DD didn't appear in his force pool.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
Hi,
Ok you have an old version of the final version..... I sent an email out to the Mac beta-testers in May to get the latest since we fixed some bugs and Slitherine was not yet ready to start the installer for the PC side. So go to the Slitherine beta-tester FTP site and download the latest Mac version of CEAW-GS v2.10
This is the version that we have been waiting for Slitherine / Matrixgames to build the installer for the PC.

I have the same issue but with Polish fighter spawned when Liverpool was all Axis controlled!Diplomaticus wrote:I can confirm this bug. I have a hotseat game going, and same thing happened.

Thanks for the response. I thought I had done that, but clearly I missed something. I'll get on Filezilla ASAP. Thanks.pk867 wrote:Hi,

Re: DD Stuck in Port
After trying again to duplicate the bug.
I left no empty hexes next to the port which places the spawn DD into the forcepool. Yes the DD comes out and can be placed on any port but it is not usable ever.....
So the LL DD spawns on turn 30 guys. Just do not have anything around that port. I still do not understand or comprehend why you would pack that channel with a bunch of ships knowing the DD spawns there.
I have let Borger aware of this, but this will be looked at after the release AFAIK.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
Answer: a) Valuable transports, etc. escaping from u-boat wolfpacks, b) simple ignorance--we don't all know the exact dates for spawns such as this one. For example, I'll bet a lot of folks have no idea when the Free French forces appear in Agadir if the Armistice is rejected.pk867 wrote: I still do not understand or comprehend why you would pack that channel with a bunch of ships knowing the DD spawns there.
Re: DD Stuck in Port
Now I understand. bummer. Usually I scatter like a bunch of geese..and take my chances.
Re: DD Stuck in Port
I would be most interested in such a date ... and when would that be?Diplomaticus wrote: I'll bet a lot of folks have no idea when the Free French forces appear in Agadir if the Armistice is rejected.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
It's November 1942--I would have to look up the exact date and whose turn it occurs on. It's good to know, though, whether you play Allies or Axis. I'm not 100% sure what happens to friendly units in Agadir--maybe returned to force pool? Ditto Axis.rkr1958 wrote:I would be most interested in such a date ... and when would that be?Diplomaticus wrote: I'll bet a lot of folks have no idea when the Free French forces appear in Agadir if the Armistice is rejected.
Re: DD Stuck in Port
O.K. And I should know this ... even if I lose Agadir then the Free French will still spawn?Diplomaticus wrote:It's November 1942--I would have to look up the exact date and whose turn it occurs on. Re: DD Stuck in Port
Unfortunately yes. Even if the Axis take Agadir the Free French will spawn sending them to the force pool.
Re: DD Stuck in Port
Solution for the Axis's Agadir problem: once you take the port, don't garrison it but keep a couple of powerful units nearby (with air support!) and lie in wait till November 1942. Then smash the Free French as soon as they appear. It's fun, and it works.

Hey ... I'm the allies!JimR wrote:Solution for the Axis's Agadir problem: once you take the port, don't garrison it but keep a couple of powerful units nearby (with air support!) and lie in wait till November 1942. Then smash the Free French as soon as they appear. It's fun, and it works.

Re: DD Stuck in Port
Also, any Allied units in the general area will get dumped back in force pool, meaning they have to be re-transported across the Atlantic.Schnurri wrote:Unfortunately yes. Even if the Axis take Agadir the Free French will spawn sending them to the force pool.
It isn't elegant, but it is workable, if you remember the dates. Which brings me to a point I've made once before –– it would help if there where a message at the beginning of a turn where something was going to spawn, so that you could move your people out of the way.

Am having a hard time re-finding the beta test FTP site information. Does anybody happen to have that handy?pk867 wrote:Hi,
