I posted a link to the Player Roster some time ago but it's time to do so again. "Money" is the same as "Points" in Klaus' system. I've tried to keep the accounting up to date.

To assist the Senate in considering the possible reassignment of generals to new theaters, I include the current Battle Roster. It will show you who has fought where, and with what result.

Ah, money=points, gotcha. In that case I donate 4 denarii to Temple of Mars - via Senator Fatimus Adiposus - in an outright barefaced bid to bribe my way into a command against the smelly barbarians. Particularly the rich ones with lots of gold and not very many pikes.

Faction leaders who have not done so should send their faction's vote to TJD and Demetrios by PM or email ASAP. With the temporary retirement of Ericus Domanus I recognize TGM as the acting faction leader for the Republicans pending an indication from the Censor of an officially recognized new leader for the faction.

Romans!

As we attempt to sort out how to proceed in the next series of campaigns, I wish to remind you of one or two pertinent geographical facts.

One battle remains in the current round against Mithridates. He is substantially ahead at this point. If he wins, Asia Minor falls to his control. As Lycia has already fallen to the victorious Cilician Pirates, the overall result is to deny Rome any easy military access to Mithridates' domains. He will be secure. There can be no question of an amphibious operation until the seas have been swept clean of the pirates. The only avenue by which Rome can attack him will be up through Judea, but that will entail problems with Seleucus and the Parthians. Rome can't afford to mess with the Parthians at this point.

Apropos my previous post, here is a map section reflecting the state of affairs if Mithridates wins the final battle:

Image

Rome has no way in. Mithridates will in effect have won the Third Mithridatic War.

Consider a truce, O Romans.

I suggest we immediately despatch an envoy to the court of Seleucus VII asking for an alliance. That will give us a foothold from which to deal with Mithridates at a later date. Give him plenty of gold. What's that Crassus up to? He's good at this sort of thing.

Seems rather shortsighted that no one was dispatched to Egypt so far.

Hmm interesting scores there Barbarain Heathen :? I take it then the four battles i have won against you don't count then eh  oh well nothign for it then but this.

Since I'm being sent away in disgrace and after finalling stopping the Allborges at the Alpine passes and having had a first foray with the Dacian's I march.....

.....

Citizens of Rome, Senators an Army approaches...what, what do you mean an army.....we can see the dust and armour glistening in the sun, hardened by war they look the business, what of the outlying Villa's, they have been left alone Senator this army marches directly on Rome....bar the gates no one is to leave the City or enter.....but Senator the people, the grain and water....I donot care DONT let this army enter whoever it maybe, assemble the garrison and man the walls......

........

Sir what are we going to do when we get there......hmm you will take the men and make camp and start training at the Campus Maximus and wait, when I return or send word you will know what to do....are you sure sir...when have I ever let you down in recent months you have stood by my side as we fought our way out of Gaul and then defended the passes against all comers what do you fear of a few fat corpalent Senators?...nothing sir was just wondering because it's Rome after all sir...yes true but not the Rome that we left behind but one that has become corrupt and self defeating, we shall see what the Senate has to say then make our decisions from there........

......

Sir sir our scouts have just reported the citizens fleeing into Rome and they can see soldiers manning the ramparts..........

Hmmm interesting how are men today.... love you as always sir and will follow you to Dantes Gates and back if necessary....excellent and good to see that there are still true Roman's around well that love may yet be tested......any word from Spain yet?...no oh well by the fates lets see what Tivials and his cronies have got for us shall we...

I suggest that Rome won't get far with that. Basically Seleucus 7 is a figurehead; Tigranes of Armenia is the real power there, and he's no friend of Rome, as those who have seen his cataphracts in action under Pontic control can attest. Also, direct Roman meddling in Syria will bring on the Parthians. The best path for Rome is via Egypt. The entire Roman position in the East has been destroyed. There aren't any quick solutions. You need to think long-term now.

Rex, the series was to consist of 8 battles, 2 with each commander. Those battles are recorded. The extra battles were understood to be "off the record", I had thought. You got one draw and one victory in those battles.

To Senator Fattius
We have Entered the Slave Market and can report that the followers of Tiavals are numerous we are outnumbered nearly 2 to 1. The Enemy has deployed to the front and Left flank of the Legion. We are now close to contact and will report to you on oursituation as we can.Tiavals is nowhere to be seen but a skilled commander is in control of this well armed and so far well disciplined enemy. We feel they are not just ordinary vagabonds but a mixture of Cilicians and Roman support troops.

Romans! As the Senate has proven itself too disorganized and inept to confront the present crisis, a crisis that sees Rome's position in the East put back 100 years and in the West has her under threat of unstoppable Gaulish invasion, it is decreed hereby that a Dictator is appointed, and that the whole defense of Rome and her dominions and allies shall be taken under his exclusive control.

Image

Meet your new Dictator, Julius FirmusofPurpus. And to the Senate he says, You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of Jupiter, go!!

Five battles are to be fought against the Gauls. Roman armies are understood to deploy from Gallia Cisalpina. If the 5 battles are lost that province too will be lost to the Gauls. The Generals are:

Fedem
Martog
Tophat
Batesmotel
Tullius

5 challenges shall be posted, password cotr; first come first serve. One battle for each general.

In the East, against Mithridates, we await the outcome of Rome's final battle before further instructions are issued.

BUT, as the threat of Pontic success is high, and given that agents of Mithridates are known to be in contact with tribes of proto-Dacians, it is ordered hereby that a preemptive punitive expedition be taken into the barbarous regions, and that Rome there prove to the Dacians that fire, misery, and extinction are the reward of those who betray Rome . Let us remove the threat of a Dacian-Pontic alliance and a Pontic bridgehead before it can mature.

To the barbarous frontiers are sent:

Turk1964
Tiavals
macsen

Casting note: Rex Hurley shall play as the Dacians. Formerly a Roman, he has proven himself so thoroughly underhanded and high-smelling that he's been a honorary Dacian for some time now anyway.

The Gray Mouser has had no generals under his command. There is none but he to undertake operations into Mauretania against the Sertorian remnants. As soon as he finished the one battle there he will be available for further assignment. Be it noted, however, that Julius FirmusofPurpus will not tolerate TGM's transparent ambition to be the First Man in Rome, and that TGM needs to be barriered from Rome by a Rubicon as wide as the western Mediterranean.

Dictatorship....maybe it was our only solution as my fellow senators seems to were too lousy.

I will follow the orders given by Julius.

Lets hope this Dictatorship doesnt last too long.

Any news from our scouts for us to know what kind of Gauls we must confront?

Many battles have been fought against these Gauls, more than enough to provide a complete intelligence picture of their composition. Here's the Gallic army:

Communique #1 from the Office of the Dictator:

Image
(Julius FirmusOfPurpus)

--Dire news from the East. All is lost to Mithridates! Asia Minor has been swept of Roman influence. Betrayal is rumored. Details to follow.

--From Gaul: 4 of 5 battles are now in progress. May Mars accept our bloody sacrifice.

An advisory to the Senate and the people: you grumble at dictatorship. Beware that you do not provoke us too far. Lists of the Proscribed have already been drawn up. (Basically, we just copied the phone book.) So play along with Julius FirmusofPurpus!
