Now now Turk, I know you think I'm a cheat, but I assure you I'm not. It really is just bad dice.

Re: PBEM System upgrade
I think this is bogus. The best thing to do if you suspect that someone is cheating is DONT PLAY THEM AGAIN.
Pure and simple.
What a waste of coding guys. How about adding in some other features to the server ...
What this will do is jack up your hand holding time with customers who get bounced/locked out. I guess you guys have nothing better to do with your time ...
Expect a message from me eventually saying that my account is locked out and please unlock it. If you wont then piss on you and I will go buy a game from a competitor. Like you guys are socking up the British Pound Stirling in making these games.
(yes, I got one of the warnings - no, I don't cheat - it must have been some issue with the server as I have an excellent connection and I cannot remember my system crashing when I was playing a game file)

i Think that this implementation it's not a waste time and it is necessary as:
a) It is extrmeley esasy to cheat.
b) It is extremely difficult to know who is cheating.
So as with most news implementations, after tuning it properly everyone it's going to be sure to play honest games.
Just be a little patient and as the people of Slitherine has been saying no one is going to be banned suddenly without prior direct contact from them.
My two cents.
Cheers!

LOL - now my account is locked out. Ok - disagree with the admin and you get locked out. Whatever, you just lost a customer. And a contributor too.

Re: PBEM System upgrade
How many email warnings did you get before getting locked out? Remember they are going thru 'teething issues" and apparently looking at a completed game gives the warning. I know as i havnt had any connection issues and got an email on Sunday, and i recall specifically that i looked at a completed game as i forgot to right down the score......Old_Warrior wrote:LOL - now my account is locked out. BTY I agree with you regarding the methodology here. better to nofify BOTH players ( perhaps during the chat phase) of how many reloads were done prior turn, and that is it. Then the players have a choice to give the benefit of the doudt...or not... and not an automated program calling the shots....

Re: PBEM System upgrade
I got one message two days ago. Then I made my post up here disagreeing with the new admin format. BAM - Locked out. I do not think that my game file activity had anything to do with the lock out. I must have rattled someone's cage.
I was doing game turns fine today. Game opening fine and I was looking forward to working a few files before I went to bed. As it is something like 3am in the UK now I will not try again tonight.
Please - not here to make Gestapo comments but why lock me out guys? Just because I disagree with you? Or is it a coincidence? Not trying to sound paranoid here. Ok - back to design work on another game project. Time is money and I will just check in the morning. Maybe it will have resolved itself by then. Just read me as concerned we had to go to such a draconian measure. I will not play the game if I am going to be locked out on a regular or semi-regular basis because your system is screwed up. I am an honest guy and do not redo my turns. As a matter of fact that kind of thing sounds like something that someone would do that obviously is in with the wrong group of guys. I have not detected perfect moves from my opponents yet but hey, if guys that play me ARE cheating - I feel VERY sorry for you. I lose quite well WITHOUT you cheating so quit making it so hard on yourselves!

Yes just to reiterate - nobody has been locked out. We absolutely do not do this type of thing. If you unhappy you can moan all you like and will not get banned as long as you dont get abusive (within reason!).
If you cannot login it must be due to a technical issue.
If you are to be banned from multiplayer you will be notified in advance.

Re: PBEM System upgrade
Must have been the Slitherine server last night - could not log in - works fine now. I figured if I slept on it that the problem would iron itself out.
But I also think that password protected games are the route for anyone to go that wants to avoid this kind of thing. Just find yourself a set of opponents you like to game with and send them the challenge password.
For one: this system cannot stop the problem from happening. The user(s) could just say that they have intermittent issues with power. Secondly, a lot of us that live in the US Western Mountain states (and other regions like this) that experience the usual Spring weather/storm madness lose power on a routine basis. To just ignore your messages is going to mean getting locked out.
I just think that this is N/A IMHO. It will not stop the "OCCASIONAL" cheater.

Re: PBEM System upgrade
I'd prefer a system that takes Slitherine out of the enforcement loop altogether. Example: the old Tiller Campaign Series was updated a couple of years ago to include an indication to PBEM players if the opponent had opened his turn more than once. I think that's all you need. It's enough to let the players know; they can then sort it out as they see fit without any paranoia or need for robo-responses.
Re: PBEM System upgrade
As I said a couple of times already, and other ones too.
I think the only way to avoid cheating is this one:
I think that the most needed feature with anticheating thingie is that both players receive the message of the multidownload. So that way after hearing the explanation of the opponent you can choose what to do.
Silly example: tournament game that is going quite well for both with no interruptions of any kind and suddenly on the final turns one of them makes a restart (with any of the 2 options known to do it). Could be just bad luck yu have a crash of the Pc or out of elecricity or a "coincidence"? The player who made it receives the warning of slitherine but actually can continue with the game. The other one never knows what is happening and could loose the game never knowing that he could have been cheated.
Right now the only thing that the system does is to give some kind of scare to someone that if he cheats too often he could be banned. The picky cheater that does it only when the game or situation matters is almost untouchable and the opponent never gets informed of anything and probably ends lossing.
It' too dificult to implemet sonething like that?
Tks!
